The meeting was called to order at 9:15 a.m. The chairperson welcomed everyone and asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the previous two meetings (9/23/03 and 11/05/03). A motion was made, seconded and approved. DADE PARTNERS: The principal informed us that one of our Dade Partners, Fresh Market, has offered to host a wine and cheese party for our Feeder Pattern. The cost for each ticket is $25 and 100% of the proceeds of all tickets sold by each individual school will be returned to the school. Fresh Market already sponsored the same event for the Aventura Charter School and it was very successful. SCHOOL BEAUTIFICATION: Our Gazebo has been delivered and is in place. A ramp will be built around it and flowers and stepping stones will be added to complete the project. CHANGES IN PERSONNEL: Mrs. Kromsky, one of our ESE teachers, will be retiring at the end of February and a new ESE teacher will be hired. Ms. Batista, one of our Spanish teachers, has completed the necessary requirements to become a guidance counselor and will fill the open position of counselor. Mrs. Heller, our other counselor, is on maternity leave. Ms. Velasco has completed her teaching requirements and will join our Spanish Department, filling the position vacated by Ms. Batista. Mrs. Herrera will give up her hourly paraprofessional position and become an office employee in charge of attendance and purchasing. FCAT PREPARATIONS: After-School Tutorials have begun and this year the teachers are implementing smaller group instruction. Saturday School will begin January 31st and will also be held on February 7th, 21st, and 28th. Mrs. Grossman, our Reading Specialist, is developing some new and innovative programs for our students and teachers (i.e. Weekly Book-Talks and Pizza Prompt Writing Parties). D.R.A. screening is being done for all students not working at grade level. This testing is done by the teacher and student, one-on-one. Test Tools will be available and implemented by our school next year. For now, our school has obtained site licenses which will enable parents to check-out Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Test Tools CD's from the Media Center and download them on their home computers. Also an Understanding FCAT Study Group will be held for parents on Monday evening, January 12th. Mrs. Grossman, Mrs. McClain and Mrs. Nemeth will discuss Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Science aspects of the FCAT Test. The Principal and our Reading Specialist have received information and looked into a professional "FCAT Stress Relief" performance for our third, fourth and fifth grade students. The chair suggested that perhaps a motion could be made to use some of our EESAC funds to help underwrite the cost of the program. The cost of the shows are $1,000 for two 1 hour shows. The Principal stated that she was going to approach PTA for help with the funding. An amended motion was then made that stated if PTA does not fund the shows or does not want to fund them entirely, EESAC will use our available money to do so. The motion was seconded and approved. OTHER BUSINESS: The Principal discussed the results of the Public Accountability Report for both our school and the county. The Principal also discussed the new paraprofessionals that were hired and where they were placed. Dr. Delgado, one of our parents, also chairs the Feeder Pattern Citizen Advisory Meetings. She informed and encouraged us all to attend the next meeting on January 28th at Krop Senior High School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. where the topic of overcrowding will be discussed. The next meeting will be held on February 18th. The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
