1. Approval of Minutes: Meeting minutes were reviewed, updated, and approved.
Other members present: Ms. Crystel Moore, First Grade Teacher; Mr. Roody Estriplet, Second Grade Teacher; and Dr. Tanesha Sewell, Third Grade Teacher, Ms. Chantea Salley, Fifth Grade Teacher.

2. SIP Reviews/Updates:
The 2013-2014 School Improvement Plan (SIP) goals and strategies were submitted for each grade level. The EESAC Chairperson, Ms. Amparo Quintero, distributed copies. The committee reviewed the documents. There were some recommendations in the area of Reading. These include but are not limited to the incorporation of exemplar text with the FCAT 2.0 strategies that are already in place. In other words, lessons are a hybrid of FCAT 2.0 and Common Core Standards for the 2013-2014 school year. In the area of Mathematics, Ms. Chantea Salley will further review the recommendations as Common Core lessons should also be part of the ongoing curriculum. Additionally, in the area of Writing, the strategies should include how all grade levels are incorporating writing across the curriculum and the focus for writing is not limited to a narrative and expository prompt response.
Comment (Estriplet): Our suggestion is to use the appropriate link in the Go Math! series for Common Core. Many times it does not correlate to the pacing guide.
Answer (Klein): I would categorize this as an example of how to use a strategy, but it is not a strategy in itself. It is the teacher’s responsibility to utilize all resources available to them effectively and appropriately in each lesson according to the pacing guide. This is already part of the basal for the Go Math! series.
Comment (Salley): There is a section of the pacing guide that is correlated to Common Core. If you need to access it, the user must click on that section.
Comment (Welch): Can K-2 have the updated Success Maker application?
Answer (Klein): At this time, I do not have budget information in order to make a purchasing decision. I still need to attend my budget conference.
Question (Welch): Who pays for the application?
Answer (Klein): The District pays for grades 3-5. Kindergarten through Second is paid for by the school site.

4. RtI/Leadership Team Reviews/Updates:
Please see Ms. Maria Y. Rodriguez, Assistant Principal, regarding possible retention procedures.
In the past there have been complaints and lawsuits in the District from parents who are concerned about the lengthy RtI process and how students are not receiving services. If you have any questions or concerns about a student or are experiencing obstacles with a case you have submitted, or if you are adamant that a student should be retained after the committee has decided that the student is not a candidate, please see Ms. Klein.
Note that ELL students must have District approval for retention.
Question (Sewell): When will 3rd grade teachers be informed if a retention is possible.
Answer (Klein): The best answer for all parties involved is before the close of the school year. By statute the State is required to provide notification. However, there may be unforeseen delays. The District will spearhead any communications and updates relevant to this issue.
Comment (Quintero): Do not provide any information other than that notification will be provided before the close of the school year.

5. Title I Parent Involvement Plan (PIP): no issues.

6. Open Forum Discussion:

Rodriguez will review the testing procedures for the administration of 2013 FCAT 2.0 Assessment. Please refer to the memorandum which delineates the staff members that are required to attend. The meeting will take place following dismissal.

7. Budget Reviews/Updates: Information is pending the upcoming budget conference.

8. Title I:
Thank you to all Afterschool Tutoring teachers for submitting their student work folder samples and attendance logs. These items will be kept on file in the event of an audit.

9. New Business: no new business items.

10. Comments/Concerns: There are no comments/concerns from parents.

Comment (Welch): The C.O.R.E. Incentive monies are set to be released following an agreement between United Teachers of Dade (UTD) and the State of Florida regarding the IPEGS evaluation system ratings. Additionally, teachers should expect these funds by the closing of school. “Race To the Top” incentives are also being released as a result of this agreement and should be paid out to teachers soon.

Comment (Klein): Please note that these funds are included in your regular paycheck and will be taxed. Plan accordingly.

Comment (Sewell): Are we planning anything for the staff end of year celebration?
Answer (Klein): The cruise idea did not come to fruition due to participation. We do not have a social committee this year; however the staff is free to plan an activity.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
