EESAC Meeting Minutes
Call or order
Time: 4:30 p.m.

Ms. Amparo Quintero, EESAC Chairperson, opened the meeting by telling us about some of the handouts that are available to peruse during the meeting: prior EESAC meeting minutes, ETO Elementary Schools – Average Percent Correct Report (Grades 3-5 for Reading and Mathematics); and Mid-Year Assessments Students 70+ Report: Grades 3-5 Broadmoor Only.

Review/Approve Prior Meeting Minutes
EESAC reviewed and approved prior meeting minutes unanimously.

School Improvement Plan (SIP)
Action Plan has been revised. Recommendations from the lastest Instructional Review have been added.
Science: There will be upcoming professional development offerings. The review went well in general. The team would like to see more of the gradual release model.
Reading/Math: We need to continue the Gradual Release Model (GRM). The team made suggestions for strategies to use during Differentiated Instruction (DI). We can improve in this regard. The team saw evidence of DI taking place such as rotation charts, independent centers, etc.
The Leadership team will be working with ETO (Educational Transformation Office) at a strategic planning meeting in order to address areas of weakness noted by the Instructional Review team.

RtI/Leadership Team Reviews/Updates
No issues or concerns.

Open Forum/Discussions
School Operations
We now have an hourly custodian position available. We are seeking to hire Mayelin Velasquez for this position and will fill her position with one of the candidates from the hourly custodian position interviews. There will be a new employee during the daytime in the cafeteria.
Monies from discretionary funds will be used to hire interventionists to push into classes. There is a position available for an interventionist during school hours. The candidate must be self-directed and be able to service various grade levels and subjects (Reading and Math). This is a part-time, hourly position (5 hours per day). A Bachelor’s degree is required. The position pays approximately $25 per hour. If anyone knows of an eligible candidate, please have them contact Dr. Omar Riaz, Principal.

Curriculum Issues
The handouts referenced above were reviewed and discussed. Dr. Omar Riaz, Principal explained the reports to the committee. He noted that the average percent correct did not translate to proficiency. The report that pertained to Broadmoor only (Reading and Math) was not printed in color. The first bar represents Reading and the second bar is Mathematics. According to the data, we are moving in the right direction.
The Accelerated Reader (AR) window began on Monday.
There might be an iReady Diagnostics Assessment #2. TBA.

Budget

Title I
There is little money available. We will try to use these funds to purchase much needed PCs.

New Business
No new business items.

Comments/Concerns
Concern (Dr. Rivera): Ms. Farmer, Media Clerk needs assistance in the media center.
Answer (Dr. Riaz): Ms. Gracely Rodriguez usually is sent to help her. I will have her come by this week to help Ms. Farmer.

Question (Moore): Do we have toner for the older printers?
Answer (Dr. Riaz): Ms. Barroso, School Secretary, has placed an order. Please check with her to see the availability of printers and toner.

Comment (Moore): I am still in the process of obtaining materials for the SAT-10 assessment. In my friend’s school (Broward), the parents purchased workbooks that can cost anywhere from $12 - $25 per book. Will we be receiving “Crunch Time” packets?
Answer (Dr. Riaz): We are moving away from the practice having “Crunch Time”/drill oriented packets. This ultimately hurts students in the end. If your students need assistance with bubbling their answers or need to learn about how to properly take the test, you should continue to use the curriculum from the pacing guide. These procedures can be embedded within the curriculum.
Question (Moore): What will we do to prepare students for the test?
Answer (Dr. Riaz): Continue to use the SAT Daily Practice for Math.
Comment (Moore): What do we use for Reading?
Answer (Quintero): As Dr. Riaz stated, the Common Core Standards prepares students for the test through the curriculum.
Comment (Quintero, Dr. Rivera, Welch): It is about teaching the standards. Adhering to the pacing guide is the best option.
