Review/Approve Prior Meeting Minutes
The last month’s meeting minutes were reviewed and approved by EESAC.
School Improvement Plan (SIP)
The first action plan as it relates to the SIP focused on the instructional framework which identified daily learning targets and curriculum alignment to standards. We had favorable comments as a result of the Instructional Review. Strategic planning involved a cumulative review to address the effects of the action plan. Moving forward, we need to focus our efforts as it relates to differentiated instruction (DI) during common planning and instruction in Reading and Math. The primary grades will focus on the framework in Math. In Science, we will bring the instructional frameworks to the primary grades to build their capacity.
The End of Year Planning documents were received from each grade level and the findings will be compiled. Collectively, the grade levels asked for professional development in the areas of DI, the “They Do” portion of the gradual release model, and independent centers. For example, in the They Do portion of the gradual release model, teachers were asking for techniques relevant to cooperative learning.
Comment (Quintero): Thank you for sending the suggestions. The compilation of this information is due by May 22, 2015. This information will be taken to the Synergy conference this summer as well.
Comment (Welch): Early Childhood factions state that as they visit schools some components of the SIP contain old information.
Reply (Dr. Riaz): Our SIP has been vigorously reviewed and this might not apply to our school site.

RtI/Leadership Team Reviews/Updates
Comment (Ms. Rodriguez): We are in the monitoring/closing phases of the process.
Open Forum/Discussions
School Operations
(Dr. Riaz): Our goal is to have an instructionally sound and safe closing of school year. Stay focused…stay strong to the end of year.
Curriculum Issues
I am interested in finding out information about the t-shirt incentives for AR that is given to the top Accelerated Reader (AR) students.
(Dr. Riaz): The top students in primary and secondary receive the t-shirt. Students are given their award in class so as not to interrupt the learning day. Next year, we want to have a wall of fame in the media center. Ms. Quintero has copies of all the past winners. AR implementation has been successful this year and we are seeing a positive impact.
Budget
Budget Conference is to be held on Monday, May 11, 2015. CASAS report has not been shared today because it typically is not 100% accurate due to glitches. We are twenty (20) students short of our enrollment goal which might be from Kindergarten. This translates to the possibility of a surplus of one (1) teaching position.
(Rosario) Let parents know that registration is now open and parents do not need to wait until June.
(Dr. Riaz): We will also be changing the marquee and sending a Connect Ed message.
(Ms. Rodriguez): Is there a list of students who should be enrolled at Broadmoor or have left Broadmoor to enroll at a charter school?
(Dr. Riaz): Yes. There is a list.
(Rosario): When 5th graders leave to a charter school such as iMater Academy, they usually unregister the siblings at our school.
(Dr. Rivera): Maybe the grade levels can be reconfigured.
(C. Moore): How can we become a magnet school in order to attract more students?
(Dr. Riaz): The process is handled by the region.
(Rosario): Extracurricular activities attract students.
(Quintero): Our school grade may have also impacted enrollment.
(M. Rodriguez): Some parents see the extra school hour as a bonus.
(Dr. Riaz); We can hold guided tours of the school and advertise Kindergarten enrollment opportunities.
(Rosario): If Madison Middle School and our school site were to combine that might benefit both of the sites.
(Dr. Rivera): What was the outcome of the voting for the composition of EESAC?
(Dr. Riaz): The school voted for no changes to be made.
(Prieto): What is the trend of the community? Is it aging? Perhaps, due to boundaries we can only expect a set limit of students to our school and it is not necessary the charters that is making the impact in enrollment.
(Dr. Riaz): We do not have that information, but we are keeping many students that we should have enrolled at this site. The distribution of the laptop computers was another initiative that promoted our school favorably.
(There was continued discussion about how to increase enrollment. The above notes were highlights of the conversation.)

Title I
In an effort to attract more students for enrollment, we will explore the possibility of an afterschool chess program.
