Review Bylaws/Roster
Copies of were distributed to those in attendance.
The committee reviewed the bylaws and suggested the following:
Motion to change the verbiage under the section Purpose at the next EESAC meeting. “Blueprint 2000” should be changed to “School Improvement Plan (SIP).
Motion to amend the verbiage under the section Composition at the next EESAC meeting. “Alternate UTD Steward” should be added to the list represented entities.
Motion to change the verbiage on page 2 at the next EESAC meeting. “SAC” should be changed to EESAC throughout the document.
Motion carried.
The deadline to submit EESAC Composition Waiver Request is April 29, 2016. EESAC discussed that there is no need to request the waiver at this time.
The roster was reviewed by those in attendance.
The committee discussed term limits for EESAC. Parents have a one (1) year term. PTA will hold elections on May 8, 2016 to vote for any open parent members for the 2016-2017 school year. The teacher term limit is three (3) years. Current member’s term limit will expire in September 2017 (Ms. Rosario, Ms. C. Moore, Ms. Quintero, and Ms. Prieto). No election is needed at this time for this membership.
Comment (Dr. Riaz): Elections need to be held prior to September 30, 2016.
Question (Jerry): Can a teacher suggest a parent to EESAC.
Answer (Dr. Riaz): Yes. The parent does not need to be a member of the PTA to be on the ballot.

SIP Review/Updates
We are in the process of having all grade levels complete the reflection worksheet for the School Improvement Plan (SIP) 2015-2016. Teachers will meet as a grade level and the grade level chairperson will submit the worksheets by May 6, 2016. Feedback will be discussed at the next Faculty and EESAC meetings.

RtI (Response to Intervention):
Ms. Maria Y. Rodriguez, Assistant Principal discussed RtI at the faculty meeting this week.

School Operations –
We were visited by a team from the Division of Academic Support. They photographed various classrooms, hallway bulletin boards, and student work samples. Our school will be featured at the next 2016 Synergy conference. Only four schools were selected from the entire district.
Our school was recognized at the School Board for the “Values Matter” of the month. This is thanks to the hard work of teachers and students. We have an extensive Twitter presence and other social media.
Curriculum Issues – none.

Budget Updates:
Budget conferences will be held on May 3, 2016. Enrollment is increasing at Broadmoor Elementary. We have had ten (10) students enroll within the past week alone. We anticipate that we will retain our enrollment status. We need to promote Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration. There will be a Pre-Kindergarten meeting on May 24, 2016 to inform parents about the transition to Kindergarten. Flyers will be sent to daycares and other agencies.
We have two (2) openings: A third grade teaching position and another for Pre-Kindergarten. There are few strong candidates.
Question (Welch): Is this advertised?
Answer (Dr. Riaz): Yes. It is on the main page on the district web site as well.

Title I –
Ms. Wanda Rosario recently traveled to Milwaukee, WI to attend a Title I meeting. She shared information about the new laws and the sunsetting of NCLB. The new program name is the “Every Student Succeeds” Act. The main difference between this act which was authorized by President Barack Obama is that 100% proficiency is not assumed over “x” amount of time.

New Business –
Suggestion (Welch): I would like to explore the possibility of having a para professional for the Kindergarten teachers. The paraprofessional can help out from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is my understanding that their hourly rate is $8-$10 per hour. This would be of great benefit to the Kindergarten teachers who are experiencing challenges with academics and behavior amongst their student population.
Comment (Jerry): If we do pursue this, wouldn’t the challenging students entering first grade next year benefit the most from this endeavor?
Comment (Rosario): Can the paraprofessional rotate among classes?
Answer (Dr. Riaz): This is a suggestion that can be explored. It will be contingent on next year’s budget. Interventionist positions take a large portion of our budget.

Comments/Concerns
Question (C. Moore): The organization that I am associated with is interested in providing an afterschool arts program to Broadmoor students. I can setup an appointment with the educational coordinator and she can provide you with the information about the program and its funding.
Answer (Dr. Riaz): Unlike the robotics program that is chosen from a menu of afterschool programs from the Office of Advanced Academics, we cannot fund a program that is not part of the preapproved menu. We can, however, have a program that is already grant funded.

Comment (Jerry): I am pleased with the direction the school is moving in.

Concern (Jerry): Will the coolers that were previously requested be available in time for the upcoming fourth grade field trip?
Answer (Rosario): Yes.

Question (C. Moore): Can we make t-shirts for the 1st graders for the upcoming field trips?
Comment (Welch): Perhaps, next year we can order a t-shirt for the entire school. We can have a different color for each grade level.
Answer (Dr. Riaz): It is up to the discretion of the grade level. Another good idea would be to order ponchos for the students. Some of these items should be ordered via the PTA because of the budget reporting parameters for the collection of funds from students.

Comments (various members):
Congratulations to the students and teachers who received awards from the Youth Fair, Books With Wings, and the Black History committee.
