School Improvement Plan/Action Plan Reviews/ Data Updates
The school Improvement plan was submitted and will be approved sometime next week. The school Improvement plan is a living document in which we will address goals as need be. -Riaz

Goals and Strategies
The goals we will focus on this year are our academic performance and writing by having teachers provide feedback for both subjects. We have intervention school-wide for 30 minute blocks. We are no longer an extended day school so we will not be able to provide one more hour of intervention to all the students in the school. It is our second year providing 30-minute intervention blocks to our student and we are still fine tuning the process. This year the teachers are going above and beyond by inputting the intervention OPM data in a Google Document that is accessible to anyone in the leadership team and staff. Today we met and would like to see how our interventions are running in the classrooms next week. The availability of having the intervention OPM data online makes assisting students easier. It also helped us become more fluid with data and determining which students need more assistance-Riaz
Are parents involved in the intervention data as well? -Romero
Yes, now it's more accessible and easier for teachers to access the intervention OPM data
I visited a school application to communicate with the teacher and I was very impressed because you could involve parents without giving your phone number. -Romero
Yes, our teachers also use that as well here it is a great program. -Riaz

iReady
This program is used as a diagnostic tool, teaching tool and a growth monitoring tool. the district recommends at least 45 minutes a week of student usage and a 75% passing rate. last week we were up 50% in reading and 74% in math. It is more difficult to implement iReady in math because of our schedules in math. Even though we are a tier-1 school Under watch School we are making those required rates and that is a great accomplishment. -Riaz

Math Topic Assessments
We use Power BI to see how students are progressing throughout the math topic assessments. In 3rd grade we are averaging 65% of the last assessment and a lot of students are having an issue with operations which includes multiplying and dividing. The fifth grade students averaged 68% proficiency. -Riaz

Florida Standard Assessment Reading
3rd through 5th grade have begun testing their bi weekly reading assessment on the computer. We are currently trending above 40% average. Our goal is to score above 50% proficiency. Third grade has a 45% average, fourth grade is scoring 54% average and fifth grade is scoring 46% average. The assessments are very challenging to complete, they are on the computers and students must manipulate two screens at the same time. This current average is positive news. - Riaz

Professional Development Opportunities
All the professional development opportunities have been shared in the Slack application. - Quintero
Slack is a message program that we are using as a school. We post meetings and professional development opportunities in slack. -Riaz

RTI / leadership team reviews / updates
We're constantly looking for strategies on how to assist our students in need. Our current case load is 20 to 30 students. We are looking at whether the child is eligible for special education services. Our main goal is to increase the gifted program at the school. Today we just gained one gifted student and yesterday we lost one. We would like to increase our gifted program to have a permanent teacher to assist the gifted population. -Riaz

EESAC Roster
All changes have been made to the roster. -Quintero

Open Forum/ Discussion
School Operations
The Chief Academic Officer Ms. Nancy Izquierdo showcased our school because we are a Miami-Dade County Turnover Model School. Many other chief academic officers were invited to observe our best practices and Implement them in their counties. -Riaz

Curriculum issues
Are we getting any more reading books? I find it difficult to teach while the students must share their anthology. -Jerry

We only have enough books for students to share. -Quintero

You can also use a laptop for students to view the digital version of the anthology while you are teaching. -Riaz

We also don't have enough laptops to do that. -Jerry

I would suggest writing a Donors Choose project like Ms. Hernandez and Ms. Moore wrote to ask for Chromebooks. -Riaz

Budget Reviews / Updates
I would like to make a motion to fund Accelerated Reader which is a program that motivates students to read. -Quintero

Last year ETO purchased the Accelerated Reader Program for us but this year that was not the case. We contacted accelerator reader last week and we’re able to get the program at a discounted rate of $4,200. -Riaz

We would also like to purchase $1,000 of toner and ink for the teachers to use for them to create the curriculum needed to teach the students. -Quintero
This year we were allotted $2,127 for EESAC funds. We also have money left over from prior years but if we do not use them they might take the funds back. -Riaz

Motion approved all

Title One
Nothing new everything's going great. -Rosario

New business
Yesterday we had our first STEM visit. During this visit they assessed how we were implementing STEM. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and Mathematics. The committee did a walkthrough the school. For us to become a STEM designation school we must participate in 3 parts of the process. The first part is the first visit. The second part is how we have implemented the strategies in the school. This includes participating in competitions Entries in the science fair and School curriculum. The third component is data driven. This is how students perform at the end of the year on the science assessment. After these three parts of the process are completed we will be awarded gold, silver or bronze designation. -Galceran

Would primary be receiving any laptops in the classroom? -Moore

Currently we are unable to provide primary students with laptops because the students are very careless with them. Just last year we had five laptops damaged in second grade. That was the first time we used the laptops in primary. -Riaz

Is it too late to join the PTA? Moore

No, you can still join! -Rosario

Next week Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. we are having our curriculum showcase at Miami Central Senior High School. This year our school chorus will perform. It should be very exciting! -Riaz

I recall us having a step team many years ago and what a great experience it was for the children. -Jerry

It would be nice if we could do something like that, or even a dance class. -Moore

The Urban Coalition hosts an art show November 29th. I can find out more information about the showcase criteria. I saw the artwork posted in the hallway and it was magnificent. It would be a great honor for the children to be showcased. The art show is free for the teachers and the students. If the parents would like to go and enjoy the show they just must pay a $5 entry fee. Food and refreshments will be provided and the South Miami Middle School band will perform. -Romero

Trunk-or-Treat was great, I would like to know whose idea that was. - Jerry

We used to do it at Shenandoah Elementary. Next year we plan to make it more of a Harvest Festival where we will sell tickets for carnival style games and food to fundraise. -Riaz

I recall seeing more parents and students at the Trunk or Treat. I wish my student’s parents would been that present during our open house this year. Would it be okay if I have parent-teacher conferences during the Trunk or Treat next year? -Jerry

The problem is that usually parents want to communicate with teachers after students are failing. We would like to get parents involved before the student fails. Most parents cannot afford tutoring. Most tutoring programs are not beneficial towards the children. We need to focus on bringing activities to the school and the community that will reward and encourage students to perform well in school. That is the biggest need my parents have. -Rosario

I know of a program which provides free tutoring. I will send you the information to see if any of the children could benefit from the program. -Romero

I recall as having the Easter Seals program which children received photography, swimming and had tutoring. We would love to bring that back to our school. -Moore

I think Miss Johnson will call Florida Memorial University and ask about free tutoring. -Jerry
