School Improvement Plan Waiver
One of the abilities that the EESAC Committee has is to make amendments about what the school district asks the school to do. We would like to vote on whether we should continue to have a SIP waiver to split the grade level chair stipends among seven teacher leaders in the school instead of three. We are splitting the $3,556 into seven parts to have a grade level chair for each department to facilitate building leader teacher capacity. -Riaz

We would like to continue this into the next year. EESAC makes the recommendation to continue splitting the grade level stipends. Do we agree? -Quintero

Unanimous agreement -All members

Now we will motion to vote on this SIP Waiver in the next faculty meeting taking place next week Wednesday. -Riaz

School Uniform
School uniforms are required in the state of Florida. It is also School Board Policy to enforce uniforms in Elementary schools. We don’t need to vote on this since it is mandatory but we need to think of ways to reinforce our uniform policy. This time of year, students tend to get creative regarding their uniform looks. -Riaz

Last year we had a plan, do we still enforce that plan? -Jerry

Yes, after three uniform violation notices, we call the parents into the office to see if we can assist them in acquiring uniforms. -Riaz

What about a new student? How much time should we give them to assimilate? -Jerry

That is based on teacher judgement, but you can reach out to Ms. Rosario to see if she can assist the family with anything. -Riaz

The PTA usually gives the parents a new uniform shirt for each student. I offer them the recycled shirts in my office if they are in great need. I try my best to support parents in any way I can. If I must do a home visit I will. -Rosario

School Improvement Plan/Action Plan Reviews/ Data Updates

Goals and Strategies
We are currently working on making teachers comfortable using Think gate. We are open to assist and help teachers in working through glitches. -Galceran

Our iReady goal for reading and math this year is for 50% of our students to be in the First tier or green on iReady. We are currently at 29% in reading. In math, we were at 41%. For science, our goal was 40% proficiency and we are currently at 43%. We are looking to tackle 7% of the students that are close to proficiency. This science score will assist us in earning points for our school grade this year. -Riaz

iReady Usage
We need to focus on our iReady usage and pass rate as a school. Last week was the first week we were complying with our iReady usage for Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 students. I was so excited to see green across our school name! We need to continue working on all tiers and keep up the hard work. -Galceran

Students did growth monitoring this week so we know that it might be difficult to comply with our iReady usage times. The Division of Academic support is aware of this as well so they will be understanding if we miss our mark this week. -Riaz

We are almost done with growth monitoring this week. We need four students to finish testing in reading and four in math. I want to thank all the teachers for assisting in this endeavor. -Quintero

So, if a student was absent does the report count their lack of time against us? -Jerry

Yes, they have no real way of taking the student out of our school score. Just like the students that do Imagine Learning instead of iReady, their time is averaged into our schools score. Now the Division of Academic Support is very understanding of these things so they just ask us for an iReady usage rate of 51% or higher. -Riaz

I just wanted to say that having Ms. Gracemelly pull students from specials to complete iReady time was a great idea. -Jerry

She has been very strategic as to who she needs to take to complete iReady time. She tends to focus on the students that are really close to meeting their required iReady time. -Riaz

Math Topic Assessments/ Florida Standard Assessment Reading
Students have begun taking their math topic assessments on the computer. We see the same trend from last year, when students begin to test on the computer their averages drop. Hopefully with repeated practice we will get better. -Riaz

Professional Development Opportunities
We had a code.org course that an FIU professor taught this month in our school. We would like to introduce a coding class that is imbedded with robotics this school year. We are just waiting for funding. -Riaz

RTI / Leadership Team Reviews / Updates
We have had a difficult time opening RTI cases this year since we have the staffing specialist assigned to our school for less time this year. We have requested a meeting with the ESE department to discuss our concerns. We have also received new students into our school that are emergency situations in which we needed them serviced appropriately. We are trying to address as many cases as we can. We are currently working on referring more gifted students in our school. -Riaz

Open Forum/ Discussion
School Operations
We have promoted Ms. Brown as the new head custodian. We found a great candidate for our lead custodial position. His name is Kawonne Canadate. He will begin soon and take the night shift. Ms. Brown will have the morning shift. We will go back to the traditional custodial schedule.-Riaz

Ms. Gamble has decided to pursue her doctorates degree and will no longer be able to teach intervention. She has been gracious enough to train her replacement Ms. Amanda Gordon. -Riaz

Curriculum Issues
This is not really an issue but we will begin Saturday school this week. We currently have thirty fifth graders registered, forty-one fourth graders registered and 3 third graders registered. -Riaz

Budget Reviews / Updates
We have very little money left for the entire school year. We have decided to buy a new weed eater because we need one and a new iPad to continue doing the Busy Bee News. The iPad we currently use was a first generation one that is beginning to have problems. That one was a donation. We would like to thank Miami Springs High School for donating $20,000 for us to purchase the third-grade laptops with. -Riaz

Title One
We hosted a DAC election today. We had an amazing turnout. We also had one our parents running for secretary. We do not know the results yet but we are hoping that she won. -Rosario

New business
Marquis Bank
I was a principal many years ago and now I work for the Department of Family Support Services as a Liaison. This department was opened by Mr. Carvalho and Ms. Izquierdo to assist parents in using resources available to them. We picked six schools to pilot a new position to assist parents with using resources. Ms. Valladares is one of our superstars. She is amazing and even though I cannot provide more monetary compensation for her position, we partnered with Marquis Bank to reward her with a computer to help her continue assisting parents. I will give it to the principal who will then give it to her to use. -Rodriguez

Parents helping parents is such a great initiative in our community. We wanted to help the community even though we are a small bank. In our efforts to educate parents and students we realized that many of our school support staff were having a difficult time understanding their finances. We want to help as many people as we can become financially literate. -Moro

Tomorrow for the award ceremony, the PTA will donate new t-shirts to the students. This way they will have something to show off to encourage other students to do better in school. -Rosario

We went to the STEM competition last Saturday. It was a blast. We would like to have teacher volunteers to assist with making sure the students are monitored during competitions since they happen simultaneously such as the banner competition, robotics competition, essay competition and egg drop competition. I want to thank Dr. Riaz and Ms. Rosario. for monitoring the competitions, Ms. C. Moore for helping with the robotics part, Mr. Gonzalez for making the Banner and Ms. Heres for also assisting in the STEM essay competition. -Galceran

It was a long and fun day! -Rosario

We must commend Dr. Galceran for our participation in the STEM Competition this year. She went out of her way to compete in SECME competitions. -Riaz

Comments/Concerns
Are we still rewarding AR winners? -Jerry

We have gone four weeks without announcing winners since it has been hectic. I would love for Dr. Riaz to present the kids with the rewards but he has been out of the building recently. The kids get so excited to see him reward them. We will try to do it tomorrow. -Quintero

I would also like to know if we can host a fieldtrip to reward students who have maintained or increased their FSA score. My goddaughter school went to Disney and it was such a great experience for her. I’m not saying for us to go to Disney but maybe Dave and Busters? -Jerry

Yes, the children lack motivation, maybe this will help them work towards a goal. - Johnson

This is a great idea. We could also do a barbeque or like a game day in the school to reward the students. We wouldn’t have to worry about transportation, losing a student or too much fundraising. -Riaz

Great idea! We need to iron out the details now so we can start telling the kids. -Quintero

Dr. Riaz in my twenty-two years of teaching at Broadmoor, this is the first time I can say that every year working with a principal gets better. I love the direction this school is going in. Kudos to you! You always have our back and support us in every way you can! -Jerry

Thank you, guys. -Riaz
