School Improvement Plan/Action Plan Reviews/ Data Updates

Goals, Strategies and Action Plan
The staff just completed the 2017-2018 Continuous Reflection Worksheet during yesterday’s faculty meeting. I sent the staff an email with the summarized version and each grade levels responses. I created a summary with the responses provided by the grade levels. Thank you for your continued support. If you feel the document should be revised, please let me know. Most of the grade levels echoed that we were fully implementing Academic Programs/ Support, School Culture, and School Leadership. The grade levels tied in the professional development section; three said fully implemented and three said partially implemented. I decided that will be one of the areas that we will focus on for next year’s School Improvement Plan. To summarize, the staff felt that they would like more unformal opportunities for feedback during the next school year. I will submit this document to the district along with the SIP model. -Riaz

iReady
The third iReady diagnostic assessments will be completed by tomorrow. We were waiting for the third grade Florida Standards Assessment results to do a mock testing for the students who needed it to be promoted to the next grade. When we look at the whole school, the scores look promising. We have flipped the model of proficiency. For math, we currently have 65% tier one students who are on grade level; 28% tier 2 students one year below grade level and 7% tier 3 students who are more than one grade level behind. In reading not including third grade we currently have 53% tier one students who are on grade level; 33% tier 2 students one year below grade level and 14% tier 3 students who are more than one grade level behind. Our predicted proficiency scores in math are third grade at 59%, fourth grade at 55% and fifth grade at 52%. For reading we are still waiting for third grade to test, fourth grade is at 37% and fifth grade is at 40% proficiency. -Riaz

What is our goal for reading? - Quintero

We set it at 50% proficiency but 45% proficiency would do. -Riaz

Do you think we will make a “B” this year? -Welch

I would hope so, but we still must wait for the scores to be released. -Riaz

I heard that the lowest 300 schools’ criteria has changed. Is this true? -Jerry

Yes, they decided to average out the last three years of scores and then rank them in descending order. This way the schools will need to make a slow and steady improvement in order to not fall under that criteria. The state wants the school to stay consistent in this matter.

It is realistic for this to be a gradual process. -Johnson

Do you track students from k-5 based on SAT scores and FSA scores? -Welch

Yes, any possible data element we track it, SAT scores, iReady scores, FSA scores, behavior and attendance. -Riaz

Math Topic Assessments
We are currently working on the getting ready for the next grade series and CPALMS lessons. -Galceran

FSA Weekly Assessments
We are still working on this until the end of the school year. -Quintero

Monthly Instructional Focus
We made it to the end of this year! -Quintero

RTI / Leadership Team Reviews / Updates
We are meeting with parents of the students we are going to retain. Every student who is being considered for retention needs a Referral for Assistance form completed by the teacher. We have a list of students that we are waiting for the Florida Standards Assessment scores to be released so we can refer them to the gifted program. We have currently staffed a few students for Speech and SLD accommodations- Galceran

Clear Backpack Pilot Program
We have decided not to participate in the clear backpack pilot program. We know it will be a financial burden for our parents to purchase them so we decided not to implement this. -Riaz

Open Forum/ Discussion
School Operations
I want to formally announce that I spoke to the gentleman in charge of the vending machine. He is willing to bring it back if we meet the criteria the district enforces of healthy foods only. I brought it up to the staff in yesterday’s faculty meeting and they unanimously agreed that they did not want the vending machine back with those terms. -Riaz

I want to thank Mr. Snipes for going above and beyond to get me a replacement lamp for my promethean board. The children were very excited to see it working again. - Hernandez

Curriculum Issues
We had our Math STEM night this week and had many parents come. We are going to host two more STEM nights before the school year ends one for coding and one for robotics. -Galceran

Budget Reviews / Updates
2018-2019 School Budget
We have the CASAS Detail by School preliminary budget for the next school year. We have been allocated 20 teachers and would like to purchase a kindergarten teacher to reduce class size in that grade level. We need to bring our enrollment higher. It is unknown if we will be given the $20,000 ETO gives us to purchase an interventionist. We pay $30,000 for each interventionist and I don’t know if we would afford it without ETO’s help. Since we have flipped the model to more students at proficiency and less at below grade level we will focus on having a more strategic intervention next year. -Riaz

Title I Budget (Parent Input)
We would like more feedback on how to spend our Title I budget for the next school year. We have been allotted $185,000 to purchase one teacher, Ms. Rosario, our Reading Coach Ms. Quintero. After that we will have about $2,000 left for materials. -Riaz

Will we ever get another math coach? -Jerry

No, we will be operating like another tier one school. -Riaz

I remember when we had Ms. Pena as our Science Coach in the Science Lab. She was amazing! -Johnson

Yes, you should consider her for something like that if we have the opportunity again. -Jerry

When my sister attended this school her most favorite part was her class. Catherine always looked forward to her class! -Hernandez

My granddaughter loved it too! - Rosario

Title One
Five of our parents are getting honored on May 30th including Eva Cruz for being involved in the PTA. We are also receiving an honor as a school in the Title I resource Center right around the corner for having the most involved parents in our feeder pattern. -Rosario

New business
Comments/Concerns
I would like to bring back the Five Thousand Role Models Program to the school. -Welch

Do you have any details about the program? - Jerry

No, but I would like to bring it to the school again. -Welch

What is going on with the mentoring program? - Welch

It has been going on all year. Teachers were instructed to meet with their mentees throughout the year. I sent an email to teachers to document their mentoring. -Galceran

Mr. Gonzalez is here every day before school starts to mentor his student. He is such a great mentor! I’m surprised you haven’t seen him early in the morning. -Johnson

Yes, he is! He is so devoted to his student he even plays chess with him from time to time! - Hernandez

Mr. Rivera is also doing a great job with his student. He meets with her every day! -Jerry

I know we are supposed to have one entry point to the school at all times but the other day I noticed that there was a man getting cardboard from the trash. We need to secure that gate as well. -Jerry
