School Improvement Process (SIP)/Action Plan Reviews/ Data Updates
Phase 2/ Quarter 2
The leadership team completed a comprehensive instructional review in which DI folders, intervention folders, journals and textbooks were reviewed. Using this information, we were able to focus on our next action steps. The next cycle will focus on the obvious steps to take. We plan to focus on more professional development for grit and refining collaborative data chats. The new updated phase 2 process is on our school website. -Riaz

Updates
iReady
We will conduct the second diagnostic AP2 beginning after December 3rd. In February we will have growth monitoring. We have had issues meeting our time on task as a school because of things out of our control like four-day school weeks and unreliable internet. We are also looking into new incentives to reward our weekly iReady winners. We would like to use $300 to create an incentive. We are considering purchasing new capes they can keep, buttons or ribbons. -Riaz
What about having the students wear crowns? Like the Burger King crowns, maybe we can even get a sponsorship? - Hernandez
I know where we can get a lot of them. -Rosario
That’s a great thing to look into. -Welch
This way the kids can show their accomplishment to others. It’s a big deal when they win that cape and we must figure out a great replacement. -Hernandez
That’s a good idea. - Riaz
I wanted to know if pre-k could participate in the award? -Welch
I’m so glad you brought that up, we will begin using Waterford data and imagine learning data to award pre-k students, and ESOL level 1 students as well. -Riaz
I can add them to our data board in the hallway. I think that will be a great way to encourage those programs. - Quintero.

Math Topic Assessments/ Reading Topic Assessments/Monthly Instructional Focus
Academic Programs – Updates
We are currently using the performance matters program to meet the needs of our students. We are focusing on grades 3-5 since it is reliable data. Second grade data is starting to show in a more reliable way but there are still glitches. The following are the last assessments taken by the students in 3rd to 5th grade:

Topic Assessments - Proficiency set at 70% or higher:
Math
• Grade 3: Topic 4 - 51% Proficient
• Grade 4: Topic 3 - 59% Proficient
• Grade 5: Topic 3 - 57% Proficient
ELA
• Grade 3: U2W3- 10% Proficient (48% Limited)
• Grade 4: U1W5 - 36% Proficient
• Grade 5: U2W3 - 33% Proficient
After reviewing this data students are having trouble with their bi-weekly assessments in reading. With this data our monthly instructional focus will be to help students with taking their bi-weekly assessments. -Riaz

Professional Development Opportunities
All the professional development opportunities have been shared in the Slack application. The University of Miami is offering a grant for a Master’s Degree in Education it begins January 2019 and ends in August 2020- Quintero

I investigated it and they pay 90% of the master’s degree cost but you must teach in a secondary program to have the grant forgiven -Hernandez

I would like to share that they passed a new law referred to as the dyslexia law. This law states that all k-6 teachers must complete 40 hours of a course called Teaching Reading to ESE Students to recertify taking place after July 2020. Also, there is a new requirement that demands that the teachers that teach retained students must have a reading endorsement or a masters in reading. -Riaz

RTI / leadership team reviews / updates
We are currently holding meetings to assist referred students. Please begin referring students as soon as you can. -Riaz

Open Forum/ Discussion
School Operations and Curriculum issues
Trunk or treat was a great success. I want to thank everyone that participated, we had a very positive reaction form students and parents. We had about 140 parents come with their children and some parents have more than one child. -Riaz

Mr. Fabian really came through. He was very popular! - Quintero

He really did! -Hernandez

Budget Reviews / Updates
Ms. Santana-Regalado secured a position in Silver Bluff Elementary. I spoke to Ms. Santana-Regalado’s new principal and she is doing great. We lost her because of our non-discretionary budget loss. She teaches Spanish and does push in support in her new school now. -Riaz

The money has finally been interfaced in our budget. We purchased Accelerated Reader. We have such a great relationship with them that they allowed us to use it for free until we received our money. We also plan to purchase two more laptop carts so all of third through fifth grade classrooms (except Ms. Cabrera’s class) will have their own laptop carts. Ms. Cabrera teachers the retained third graders so we would not be able to provide her a laptop cart since just the carts cost $12,000 each and that does not include the laptops or chargers. Dr. Galceran met with the representative for JJ Bootcamp and we are deciding what materials to purchase for tutoring. We need to pick between JJ Bootcamp and Coach. –Riaz

Title One
We just had a parent academy meeting today. It was very successful. We also had a meeting in the Title I office that eight of our parents showed up to. They won goodies and prizes for their children. They were very happy with us because we have the most involved parents in our area. We plan to have a parent academy course on the portal next time since the parents are requesting it. -Rosario

New business
Yay! 362 passed with an overwhelming 71% of voters supporting it. -Welch

This will take into effect July 1st of 2019. -Riaz

Comments-
The Early Childhood Coalition has a new initiative called “Talk Sing and Read Initiative” that is encouraging parents to talk to their children instead of being on their devices all the time. Publix and Comcast partnered up to support them. They will also start paying for pre-k teachers to take courses or trainings that they want to take. They are realizing now that it starts from pre-k, if we give these babies a solid foundation they’ll do better in school. -Welch

Parents agree that it’s very important to start from early on to help the students. Some parents were asking why some teachers don’t use ClassDojo. Is it mandatory for teachers to use? -Rosario

It’s a great program that teachers can use. It is not mandatory, so they don’t have to use it. -Riaz

The parents that of the teachers that have it love class dojo. They say they are more informed about what’s going on in class and that helps their children a lot. -Rosario

Unfortunately, you really need to buy into the program to use it. It has many benefits, but some teachers feel like it’s another thing to do, so they won’t use it. -Hernandez

Motion to adjourn -Rosario
Motion carried (C. Moore)
Adjourned 4:37pm.
