Topics Covered:

1. Call to Order: 3:30 p.m.
2. Update by Principal, Betty Riera
a. Explained EESAC and how many times it will meet this year.
b. Reminded members about any recommendations they may have for the 2002- 2003 school year may be addressed at the end of the meeting.
c. Discussed all events that will be taking place during the first 9 weeks:
i. Hispanic Heritage Month and Contest
ii. United Way Drive
iii. "Do the Right Thing" Contest
iv. Accelerated Reader Program
v. "Say No to Drugs" Week
vi. "The Principal's Reading Challenge"
vii. Administration is already ordering FCAT materials to begin preparing students
3. Question/Answer Session/ Recommendations/ Comments
a. Rene Perez-congratulated us on a great opening of the school year
i. Expressed his concerns with noise level in cafeteria
b. Recommendation by Marisol Gomez- adding parental supervision during lunch and would apply toward volunteer hours
c. Recommendation by Monika Blasko-to assign cafeteria monitors to supervise other class members during lunch
d. Comment by Betty Riera- on the importance of keeping the lines of communication open between teachers and parents
e. Comment by Marisol Gomez-has observed that children who do well are for the most part, the ones whose parents are involved.
f. Rene Perez-expressed concern about parental notification of FCAT after-school tutoring program.
i. Betty Riera stated that a workshop would be held for all parents whose children are taking the FCAT and that its purpose was to guide parents in helping their children with strategies that would ensure success on state-mandated testing

4. The meeting adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
