Topics of Discussion

What is EESAC?
EESAC stands for Educational Excellence School Advisory Committee. EESAC includes parents, students, teachers, community members and school administrators. Its purpose is to assist the school’s administration in steering the school in the proper direction and being a pillar of support for best practices.

The By laws are attached for review and approval. By Laws can be amended if there is a unanimous vote.

The EESAC committee has two year terms and only 5 members will be voting.
All meetings will be distributed and posted for review. (These are public meetings). Also keep in mind as a middle school member you can remain in the committee in high school also.

Principal’s Agenda

Title I funding (No Child Left Behind)
Programs purchased for the school
Expansion of Curriculum and Advanced Placement Courses
Middle School students can take high school course to make room for AP courses in high school.
We also have tutoring after school and Saturday school.
NAF - Mr. Yanowitz will be in charge of the business academy next year. He will assist in preparing a proposal and developing a national academy of Finance and an academy of Marketing for the students to enroll in. These academies will bring a positive light to our school, our curriculum, and our mission by allowing for students to earn internships with local businesses and partake in business related courses during their high school years.

FCAT - Lower level students are pulled out of the classroom for extra instruction.
FCAT levels – Reading, language arts – 40%
Math – 89%
Writing – 89%

Parental involvement – Volunteer hours

BUDGET is a major concern
The principal at Mater is part of the Budget Advisory Committee for the District. More cuts are anticipated for next school year. This year, the school will operate with a positive cash flow. As the next school year approaches, more information will be shared with the EESAC to develop next year’s budget.

We will be concentrating on more class room space, more computer lab usage, and PE rooms will be used as classrooms throughout the day to accommodate for next year’s budget cuts.

The school to work program will alleviate student flow in the building by allowing them to take required courses on campus and leave school early to work in for credit internships with local businesses.

SACS accreditation will take place end of this school year. Scheduled for April 16, 17, 2009. The SACS committee will meet with the EESAC committee at some point of their visit. Parents will be a part of the SACS process and interview sessions.

Fundraisers will be discussed in more detail at our next EESAC meeting.
