STUDENT UPDATES:

Student Mahya Shearn

Updates on Yearbook. She will write a list of concerns and updates on yearbook for next EESAC meeting.

Ms. Lima added if there were any concerns on students not being allowed to use the restroom? Suggested that the students ask and report back to her.

Mahya added that some students want to always use the bathroom.

Some students were complaining that they did not like how their student ID looked. Some pictures are different. Some pictures are taken on a different machine. If students are new to the school or they were absent on picture day. Ms. Lima added that students are allowed to use a different lanyard.

PRINCIPAL UPDATES:
Ms. Cynthia Lima

Every year we have to discuss the school dress code. There is a MDCPS school dress code and then there is the individual school dress code policy. Two and a half years ago students were wearing different jackets. Parents do appreciate the red and black jackets with hoodies. School board policy requires closed shoes; in CCMS we do not allow bermuda shorts. The dress code is khaki pants, red polo with school logo and a red or black jacket.
Does anyone propose any changes to the uniform or would like to discuss? Everyone in the meeting agreed that the uniforms were fine.

Some Academies at different schools have different uniforms and colors, or a pin. We can ask the students their opinion. Maybe next year it could go under incentives for EESAC.
Emails received from School Operations in regards to safety.
I was called to a mandatory Principals meeting regarding the identification of hard corners in the classroom. The hard corners are to be identified in each classroom in the event of a code red.

Every month we do a drill, the school is placed on lockdown for a few minutes until we evacuate everyone.

Two teachers are at the front gates and gates are closed at 9:00am. Mr. Tuft our head custodian, locks the gates at 9:10am. The only door that is kept open is our main office door, which I am considering buying The Ring and installing it over the summer. Last summer we kept the office closed as a safety measure and put a sign on the door asking visitors to call so the door can be opened.

We have a radio that communicates in the event of an emergency with school board police and command center. The DECON radio gets refurbished every year, a notification will be sent to me to go to the main office in Miami Springs and get the radio refurbished.

An application has been put out to hire a new school security but have not had any luck after some interviews. Some custodians arrive to work two hours and a half early and serve as security in the meantime while we search for someone permanent.

SIP WAIVERS
During our next Faculty Meeting we will have a vote to Amend the contract. Vote on block schedule and vote on 8 period schedule. We have funds that can only be used for Department Chair positions, Athletics etc. We received about $ 50,000. These funds can only be used specifically for these types of supplements. We also voted last year to have for example a supplement for morning supervision or lunch supervision.

TITLE I
When using Title I funds you can only supplement. There are many limitations on what can be purchased. Three teaching positions, 4 supplements, hourly pay for Saturday camps and our hourly CIS, there are still $5,000 left. Title I money needs to be used within the year that they are given. Only items that have been purchased in the past can be supplemented. 25 keyboards can be purchased. Ms. Lima will make some phone calls to identify what else can be purchased. Paperwork must be submitted by February 15

Office of School Improvement- OSI

Report for each school, based on data collection.
Attendance is a huge endeavor. Ms. Schievis has 6th grade, Mr. Fabal as 7th grade.
Mr. Julio Castelliero that comes every Wednesday has been assigned 8th grade.
The Counselors are calling the students that are absent daily, in addition to the connect ed.

I will be tracking the data to see if there is any improvement in attendance.
Teacher attendance is also being tracked. The school from 0.5 to 5 days we have had 78% absent and the district has 69%.

Students Mental Health is an important focus. By the end of the year hopefully there will be more teachers conducting groups. The group can be an academic group, a peace group or a welcome back group.

I-READY DATA

8th grade math is always a concern. 8th graders in levels 3,4, and 5 are in Algebra and Geometry.
Tier 3 8th graders were at 69% of the students tested.

ELA – 7th grade showed 50% of the students in Tier 3. We do have some assistance with our curriculum support specialist with Ms. McKinus. The ELA and reading team really appreciate her being here.

We need 29 points to get to a “B”

Mid Year Assessments will show how the students are doing in 6th and 7th grade Science Benchmarks.
