Principal Updates:
Mr. Rafael Crespo

One of the objectives for this year is to have a PTSA and more parent involvement and also targeting Math. Last year was an area where there was a decline in Math. To target that I have introduced intensive math classes adding a second math course to give the students extended time with math content, also with Algebra, Geometry and Biology.

We have 5 new faculty members, we were able to acquire a Math, Social Studies, Biology and Language Arts Teacher and a Counselor . We also have curriculum support from the district. Curriculum Support Specialist are coming in for Math, Social Studies, Science, which had last year. We requested additional support in Mathematics, even though we are a Tier 1 school.

We have Open House September 18, 2019 at 6pm. American Sr High will be attending and promoting their school. Barbara Goleman has stressed their interest in being involved also. Some community partners have also expressed interest.

Title 1 Updates
Budget:
We purchased 5 teachers and a Counselor.
Also, we have some funds left over in the budget where we can purchase some resources for the teachers to help supplement the materials they have right now.

Student Updates:
Jordyn: everything is going great. Ms. Aguila asked if I wanted to help her with one of the students in her class that was visually impaired. Ms. Villazon explained that in this situation she can make an exception, so that Jordyn can be an office aid and assist the student during Ms. Aguila's class.

Parent Updates:
Ms. Rita Dozier
I got to meet with the principal several times this summer. Many parents that I have talked to are all relaxed and pleased after meeting him and interacting with him, and how open he is to discussions. Jordyn is in seventh grade and taking Algebra 1, I was able to get her a tutor, the class is soaring and so is Jordyn.

Community Members
Evelyn Rodriguez: The North Campus of Miami Dade College has the largest number of Sea Stars program participants and has overall dual enrollment students. In the state of Florida we have the highest numbers. It is nice when you have a middle school student that can graduate with a degree by the time they get their high school degree.

Assistant Principal
Ms. Jacqueline Villazon
Schedule changes:
We are still leveling classes, opening classes and closing classes.

School Improvement Plan:
The new SIP has two components as of last year. 1. School Culture 2. Academics. The school culture is based on the school climate survey. Our role as administrators is to look at the results of the school climate survey and based on the findings target what areas we are going to work on our school culture. Ironically, the area that received the lowest rating was
" my building is kept clean and in good condition." However we have had perfect audit for sanitation in the last three years. That is what students addressed, so that is what we have to write. What can we do to make it better? Meeting with the custodians regularly, doing walkthroughs of the building to see what the students may be seeing. I have asked teachers for any custodial requests they may have for their rooms.

Mr. Crespo added that all the Palm trees have been cleared, the overgrowing trees have been trimmed, mulch has been added to the garden. The exterior of the building is also being maintained. Paint has been purchased to paint the stairwells and doors.

The other component of the SIP is the academic component. It asks 3 areas to discuss. 1. What was a significant improvement. 2. What was neutral 3. What was a significant decline.
Significant Improvement: Science, we did go up 11 percentage points. That was
an area of concern last year in our SIP.
Neutral : Civics, we were 72 percentage points the year before and this year 72 percentage points. Mr. Ahmed joined us last year in our Civics team and he did exceptionally well.
Significant Decline: We did go down 8 percentage points in Math, Mr. Crespo is going to be opening an I-Ready lab in the mornings in the Media Center. Studies show that students that do I-Ready consistently do better on the FSA. A few math teachers have offered to tutor in the morning on their own time. Intensive Math, Intensive Algebra.

At our Faculty Meeting we will discuss the SIP
