Ms. Gans stated that Gables was visited by a Region Review team as well as a District review team. Their emphasis was on reading. All visitors were former Elementary school principals.

Mrs. Gans stated that tutoring is available after school. Science has been added to the tutoring schedule. Tutoring is also available on Saturday. She is concerned that there are some students that are not presently in a science class, mainly because they may have been accelerated. These kids have been identified and will be made aware of the tutoring that is available. The Science FCAT will not affect graduation but it will affect the school grade. School pride and individual pride are being emphasized to students as reasons to strive to do well on the test. Incentives are going to be provided to students showing up for tutoring and being in attendance the day of testing.

Academic portfolios with each students individual data will be provided/reviewed with 9th and 10th graders. It highlights the areas of deficiency on the FCAT. Mrs. Gans feels strongly that in order for a student to improve he/she must understand their own data. The portfolios will be distributed through the Language Arts classes.

Ms. Munnerlyn explained that during Saturday School, she can pull up Snap Shot and see in which area each student needs help.

Liz Salazar stated she is finding I.D.’s near the street near her house. She is concerned about the information printed on the I.D. cards. She is returning them to school.

Ms. Gans noted that the students I.D. number should not appear printed on the student I.D., but should be barcoded only. She will check into the situation.

Mr. Zequeirra shared that he already distributed the student portfolios and that the students indicated that it was a useful tool. He also distributed an article from the St. Petersburg Times, which stated that many schools can expect to achieve lower FCAT test scores. He also distributed a chart of parliamentary procedure.

Ms. Hofmann commented on how excited students were about having an honor roll and principals honor roll and appaulded Mrs. Gans for having reinstated this tradition.

Mr. Zoller suggested the honor roll be posted. Mrs. Gans stated it would be scrolled.

Andrew Navarro stated he felt it too much to have 'Gables Writes' on common days.

Mrs. Gans reemphasized 'Gables Writes' was a brief activity that would continue to be implemented on common days.
