Topics Covered

Today’s meeting opened with a welcome from Chairperson Hofmann, followed by introductions of the committee members present. A quorum was established. The April 16, 2007 minutes were read and accepted pending the correction of several typos.

Items covered:
School Improvement Plan-Presentation of the SIP End-Of-Year Review was given by Ms. Otero. Ms. Otero pointed out the following items:
A. Interim assessment-there was growth
B. We will be organizing and analyzing our FCAT results
C. We are just beginning our Academy
D. Math interim assessment had a decrease. This is a District issue. There was, according to math teachers, no correlation to what they were teaching on the math interim.
E. There will be a summer freshmen focus committee to discuss the needs of these students
F. To schedule all 11th graders into a science class for the next year
G. Parental involvement is necessary. Ms. Otero reviewed the forms of contact made to parents including parent sign-ins at all school meetings; random calls are made to alert parents to their children’s attendance, and parent-teacher conference were among her list. Ms. Otero also discussed early release, school uniforms, suspension rate did not go down), technology goals (new computers for classrooms), and health & physical fitness; especially, all PE teachers will be trained in CPR.

Mr. Zoller (business) mentioned school safety, and his concerns. Mr. Blackmon (UTD) moved to accept Ms. Otero overview of her report; it was seconded by Mr. Navarro (student). EESAC approved the SIP End-Of-Year Review.
