Topics Covered:

The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:50 pm by Stephanie Hofmann, chairperson. The minutes of the October 15, 2007 minutes were reviewed. The minutes were accepted as presented. The agenda was issued.


I. School Improvement Plan- Ms. Otero presented an overview of the SIP.

II. Bylaws- Ms. Hofmann presented the recommendations of the Bylaws committee:

A. COUNCIL MEMBERS
1. Composition
Insert “one” to read “…four parents, one representing each grade level…”

Delete “parents” and insert “ Parents shall elect an alternate representative for each grade level.” to read “Teachers, students, and education support employees shall also elect an alternate representative. Parents shall elect an alternate representative for each grade level.”

B. ELECTION PROCESS
1. To read “Teachers and alternates shall be elected by teachers at a general faculty meeting at the beginning of the school year upon termination of 3 years of service or upon a vacancy occurring. Newly elected alternates shall serve the remainder of the term. “Teachers” shall include: classroom teachers, student services personnel, and media specialists.”

8. To read “ EESAC shall also elect a vice chairperson and a secretary.”

J. AMENDMENTS
2. To read “The proposed amendment shall be considered by the bylaws
committee and a recommendation made to the EESAC.”

K. ALTERNATES
1. To read “If a member of a group is unable to continue on the Council, the
alternate will replace the regular member and assume the responsibilities for
the remainder of the term.”

Mr. Zoller proposed to include an amendment to section J. 3. to read “Any proposed amendment shall require a 2/3 vote of the Council members present to ratify the amendment.” Ms. Munnerlyn moved to accept all the proposed amendments to the bylaws; the motion was seconded. By unanimous vote the EESAC amended the bylaws.

III. District EESAC Feedback Survey-The survey was conducted. Ms. Gans will submit
one survey which will reflect the feelings of the CGHS EESAC.


IV. Modern Management Practices-Mr. Zequeira provided the EESAC with a handout on W. Edwards Deming’s Modern Management Practices. He gave his thoughts on 12 points to improving organizations. Ms. Reitsma had concerns with the placement of the item on the agenda. She felt that it was not a discussion the EESAC needed to pursue.

V. Open Forum

Announcements-November 27th Parent Conferences have been cancelled.
