Topics Covered

The Coral Gables senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order by Chairperson Stephanie Hofmann at 2:50 pm. A quorum was established. Introductions were made by all present. The minutes from the January 7, 2008 meeting were reviewed. By unanimous decision, the minutes were accepted as written. The agenda was issued.


I. School Improvement Plan update -
Ms. Otero, Assistant Principal, reported that the District accepted the SIP Mid-year review with minor (grammar) corrections.


II. School Dress Code Declaration – Provides that schools do not need to vote on uniforms every year. Coral Gables High School is a uniform school. The EESAC is in consensus to accept the declaration.


III. “Crunch Time To FCAT” – Principal Gans distributed and reviewed a special tutoring schedule for students to receive additional FCAT assistance on Saturdays. Writing ‘Crunch Time’took place Feb. 9.

IV. Small Learning Communities – Principal Gans explained that the District is applying for a grant to fund the restructuring of schools into small learning communities. Coral Gables High School is also applying for a grant to reshape our school into small learning communities. Coral Gables High School applied for and received a $40,000.00 grant this past summer to form a business academy. Gables will apply for the second stage of the business academy grant which is for an additional $75,000.00. If the grant is awarded, most of the money would be used for professional development.

V. ‘SPOT SUCCESS’ – Principal Gans explained this new initiative of the District which recognizes students for being successful and/or showing improvement. Teachers can submit the name of a student on-line. Ms. Gans would then approve the nomination and print out a certificate to be presented to the student.

VI. Vision/Mission Committee – Ms. Hyatt presented an update: stakeholders of the school will be surveyed for input on the Vision and Mission statements.

VII. Announcements – PTSA will meet this evening at the Frankie Rolle Center.
- Parent/Teacher evening conferences scheduled for March 4th
have been canceled.
- The Superintendent’s ‘Town Hall’ meeting will be on March 5th at Edison Middle School at 6:30 p.m.

VIII. Open Forum – Ms Gans clarified the Attendance Policy regarding NG’s and NC’s. She stated that there are still glitches in the system.
