Topics Covered:

The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:50 pm by Stephanie Hofmann, chairperson. A quorum was established. The minutes of the December 8th meeting were reviewed and accepted pending the correction to remove “see attached” in reference to the Language Arts /Reading Powerpoint presentation. Ms. Hofman had problems with getting the attachment to attach. The agenda was issued.

I. School Improvement Plan (SIP) Updates- Dr. Mitchell, Science Department Chairperson, presented a review of the strategies being implemented throughout the Science classes. All strategies provided by the county are being used. Both 10th and 11th grade Progress Monitoring tesst have been administered. There were no questions.

II. Full time Gifted Program (2009-10) Update- Mrs. Gans, Principal, presented the pros and cons, of implementing a full time Gifted Program at Gables, considering the recent and projected budgetary cuts. As of now, Gables will not pursue the implementation of a full time Gifted Program. It was a hard decision for Mrs. Gans, however, she felt the decision was necessary under the current budget constraints.

III.. Open Forum
FCAT Crunch Time (increased tutoring) dates are February 7 & 21 from 8 am until 11 am.
Our attendance reached 95%; we will continue to strive for 100%. We are looking into tying after school activities to daily attendance. There was much discussion on how to reward students on year long perfect attendance including: possible attendance assembly; certificates; businesses donating IPODS and large screen televisions; additional prom tickets.

Out of this discussion- Mr. Manny Riera, Business Community Representative, offered to donate a flat screen television to be raffled as an incentive/reward. We accepted his offer! Ms. Reitsma, Business Community Representative, offered to present the idea of donating goods/services as additional incentives/reward to the local business community.

The next EESAC meeting will be February 9, 2009 at 2:45 in the Media Center.
