Topics Covered

The Coral Gables senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order by Chairperson Stephanie Hofmann at 2:50 pm. A quorum was established. Introductions were made by all present. The minutes from the December 14, 2009 meeting were reviewed; there were no corrections. All present accepted the minutes. The agenda was issued.

I. SIP Updates- Ms. Munnerlyn and Ms Furnari gave highlights of the District SIP meeting two weeks ago, Crunch time schedules/calendars for Language Arts/Reading, Math and Science. There will be starting on Jan 4, 2010 30 minutes of Crunch times (reviewing the benchmarks, then teachers may teach their content material). PTSA parents asked for and were given types of incentives to possibly give to students attending Saturday tutoring. Mrs. Watson felt we should not consider detention students in the gift giving. Other parents felt Science should be present to discuss low scores. Ms. Hofmann explained that because of a prior commitment Dr. Mitchell could not be present. Ms. Otero discussed Science needs and progression.

II. Student Data on Baseline –to sum up-
9th grade reading as of Jan 2010 data is insufficient.
10th grade reading as of Jan 2010 data is insufficient.
9th grade math as of Jan 2010 data is satisfactory
10th grade math as of Jan 2010 data is satisfactory
11th Science as of Jan 210 data is insufficient.

III. Mid Term Exam Schedule was issued to all present and discussed by Dr. Diaz.

IV. New High School Accountability Requirements-Dr. Diaz discussed the new programs offered through the Division of Career & Technical Education (CTE). Dr. Rose L. Martin is the District Director for Region III.

V. Credit Recovery- E2020 Dr. Diaz explained how students will be allowed to recover credits. It is an online program. All students are monitored by Mrs. Marvez.

VI. New Graduation Requirements- Dr. Diaz gave this report. Major Areas of Interest (MAI). The purpose of MAI is to identify students who have completed an ePEP and MAI and monitor all students through ISIS-there is no action required of schools.

Open Forum
Jan. 26 –Curriculum Fair

Jan. 28 – Early Dismissal - There will be 2 lunches served. School will be dismissed at 12:30 pm. This is the new way for Early Dismissal until the end of school

PSAT/PLAN/EXPLORE was a very good workshop held by Mr. Hernandez debriefing all students who took the PSAT/PLAN/EXPLORE tests. Students present at the EESAC meeting said it was very well organized and informative.
