Topics Covered:

The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:45 pm by Stephanie Hofmann, Chairperson. Introductions were made by all present. The minutes of the January 11, 2010 meeting were reviewed. One correction was made, the spelling of the name ‘Marvez’ in section V. All present accepted the minutes pending the correction. The agenda was issued.

I. Mid-Year SIP Report-Dr. Diaz gave highlights of the report (The full report is at the Gables website). Mrs. Rodriquez moved for the acceptance, seconded by Mr. Blackmon. The Mid-Year SIP was accepted by all.

II. FCAT Testing schedule- Dr. Diaz discussed the FCAT testing schedule. March 9 will be the FCAT Reading, March 10 will be the FCAT Math and March 16th will be FCAT Science. Tutoring is ongoing throughout the building afterschool, as well as Saturday School. On testing days if a subgroup is not testing they are receiving review. The 12th graders will be in the auditorium receiving Graduation information.

III. School Uniform policy- Principal Costa gave this report. The Principal wants to see a continuation of the uniform policy. Mrs. Watson, Parent, ensued a discussion concerning the outer wear of some of the students being out of uniform policy; how are we addressing this. Mr. Costa reminded her about the economic status of our clientele- that 60 % are on Free/Reduced lunch and perhaps unable to purchase additional warm clothing. More discussion ensued on what our students are wearing to school. Mr. Costa reminded all that the fine points/details could be discussed at another meeting. The EESAC agreed to continue with the present uniform policy.

IV. Open Forum
Theft in lockers was mentioned. Mr. Costa explained that students can purchase a lock through the treasurer’s office to secure their valuables.
