The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:50 pm by Stephanie Hofmann, chairperson. The minutes of the February 8th meeting were reviewed. Agenda
I. Testing- The FCAT testing schedule was reviewed by Mr. Hernandez, Testing Chairperson. AP/IB testing will follow soon. Students will complete pre-registration. Exams will be the entire month of May. CELLA test for ELL will be the 3rd week of April (April 19-23). This test will determine exit from ELL program. This test will determine ELL levels for upcoming year.

II. Dual Enrollment- Dr. Diaz presented the dual enrollment agenda. He distributed a handout explaining the process. Courses listed will depend on faculty accreditation. FIU will give English for Seniors, Pre-Cal (see handout). This program is free for the student; there is a cost to the school. Students would get AP points. Students have to qualify for admission to dual enrollment courses. Most public institutions will accept these credits; more dual enrollment courses may be available.

III. Gifted Program- The Gifted program has been a ‘consultative’ program at Gables. Gables wants to go ahead and attempt to go to the full gifted program (see handout). Students in program will be required to be in 3 out of 4 gifted classes. Gifted teachers will work with students on an individual basis.

IV. EESAC Budget- Mrs. Rodriguez, Budget Chairperson presented the EESAC budget expenditures to date (see handout). Parents shared concerned over lack of textbooks. Chemistry textbooks have been purchased for IB classes. Mr. Costa said some textbooks have been ordered using SLC funds. Most books that have been ordered are for upper level courses. Mr. Costa recommended that the $675.00 that was not used by the Math Department to purchase projectors be used by Ms. Furnari to purchase any other supplies for her department. The committee unanimously agreed.

The April ESSAC meeting was cancelled. The next ESSAC meeting will be May 10, 2010 at 2:45 pm.
