Topics Covered:

The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:50pm, by Stephanie Hofmann, EESAC chairman. A quorum was established. Introductions were made. The minutes of the December 16, 2003 EESAC special meeting were presented. Ms. Fernandez made a motion to approve the minutes with corrections. The motion was seconded. By consensus, the minutes were approved with corrections.

Ms. Hofmann distributed copies of a proposal that was requested by Rita Oates. The proposal states: “Request Commissioner Jimmy Morales to change the “no left turn off Riviera” signs to take effect at 7:30a.m. or later—after the 7:25a.m. start of school—so that parents bringing their children to school will not back up traffic on Riviera and students will not be tardy as a result. A copy of this request should also be sent to the Coral Gables city manager, David Brown, as a courtesy.” Dr. Martinez stated that he would be meeting with M-DPS Board member, Gus Barrera and Maria Jimenez, assistant city manager of Coral Gables on January 13th to discuss various traffic issues. Ms. Orgaz made a motion to postpone this issue to the next EESAC meeting. The motion was seconded. The motion passed with the objection of Mr. Taylor and Mr. Wood.

Ms. Hofmann distributed copies of the mid-term exam schedule and the upcoming curriculum fair to be held on February 6th. She stated that subject selection for students for next year will begin the 2nd week of February.

Dr. Martinez presented the following information: 1—we are officially connected to the sewer system. Once the final testing is completed, all connections will flow through the sewer system. 2—the food pavilion should be completed very soon and we should be able to use it next month. 3—ground breaking for the new building will take place after the staging area on the driver’s education lot is cleared. 4—work is being done on a budget for technology. 5—Ms. Munnerlyn will conduct FCAT reviews for classes in the auditorium. The Science Department is also conducting FCAT reviews for classes.

Ms. Hofmann announced that the next EESAC meeting will be held on Monday, February 9, 2004, at 2:45pm, in the Media Center. Dr. Martinez will present an update on the traffic issues. Ms. Hofmann adjourned the meeting at 3:32pm.
