The motion was seconded. By consensus, the minutes of the December 13, 2004 EESAC meeting were approved as amended.

Ms. Alvarez, Assistant Principal, gave an update on the events concerning the evacuation of the building on 1/10/05. There was no actual fire. A short circuit in the system caused the heater to turn itself on. Dust on the system began to burn resulting in smoke coming into the main office via the ceiling.

Dr. Martinez reported that the ‘Principal Of The Year’ committee would return on campus Mon. Jan. 24th for a final evaluation. Community leaders, parents, student representatives, and faculty representatives will attend. The Culinary Arts students will prepare breakfast.

Mr. Taylor requested an update on the 8 period day. Dr. Martinez reported that additional courses were added to the curriculum. The next step is to send a proposal to the District. The District will then decide if it goes through or not. Ms. Alvarez stated that she is proceeding with subject selection as if the 8 period day will be implemented.

Ms. Alvarez announced the dates of the FCAT. Writing is Feb.8, Reading Comprehension is Feb. 28, Mathematics is March 1, Science is March 8, and the NRT is March 9. Ms. Alvarez also stated that 11th grade students will repeat the Science test this year and it counts.

Dr. Martinez gave an update on the new building. The kitchen is in. The bathrooms are ready. The 2nd and 3rd floors are ready. The elevators are in. The offices are almost ready. There was a mistake on the elevation of the landscaping, but it has been corrected. The goal is to be able to use the new building for testing and then move in. There will be a crew of 25 people to help with the moving. The first demolition will be the 10 pack. Mr. Taylor asked if the portables had any salvage value.

Ms. Melton stated that she, her husband Dusty Melton, and Eve Cater will be meeting with School Board member Agustin Barrera to discuss restoring the acoustics and the sound and light systems in the auditorium.

Dr. Martinez reported that the School Board will give a list of organizations that will collect funds donated for Tsunami victims.

The next EESAC meeting will be held on Monday, February 14, 2005, at 2:45pm, in the Media Center. The EESAC meeting was adjourned at 3:45pm, by Ms. Hofmann, Chairman.
