Topics Covered:

The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:50 p.m., by chairman, Stephanie Hofmann. Introductions were made. A quorum was established. The minutes of the November 14, 2005 EESAC meeting were distributed to all present. Ms. Watson made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 14, 2005 EESAC meeting as presented. The motion was seconded. By consensus, the minutes of the November 14, 2005 EESAC meeting were approved.

Ms. Otero distributed copies of the revised FCAT testing schedule to all present. She stated that this is the schedule as revised by the M-DCPS. The FCAT writing test will be given on 02/07 & 08/06, as originally scheduled. Ms. Otero stated that 25% to 30% of students passed the FCAT retake exams. However, these students will remain in the remedial classes as no provisions were made to allow these students to take other elective classes. The students will be studying SAT preparations. Ms. Jackie Garcia asked about FCAT testing for ESE students. Ms. Otero stated that ESE students are placed into groups of 10-11 students and have no time limitations for taking the tests. She also stated that the IEP for each ESE student should state the provisions for that student concerning the FCAT.

Ms. Otero stated that six representatives from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools will be making a site visit to Gables on March 26-28, 2006. They will review the last accreditation which was made five years ago. These representatives will interview students, teachers, and parents.

Ms. Otero stated that the attendance at the December 3rd and 10th, Saturday Parent Academy was lower than expected. She also stated that attendance at the after school tutoring programs is also low.

The next EESAC meeting will be held on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 2:45 p.m., in the Media Center. The EESAC meeting was adjourned at 3:20 p.m., by Ms. Hofmann, Chairman.
