Topics Covered:

The Coral Gables Senior High School EESAC meeting was called to order at 2:50p.m., by chairman, Stephanie Hofmann. Introductions were made. A quorum was established. The minutes of the December 12, 2005 EESAC meeting were distributed to all present. Ms. Watson made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 12, 2005 EESAC meeting as presented. The motion was seconded. By consensus, the minutes of the December 12, 2005 EESAC meeting were approved. Ms. Hoffmann distributed copies of the flyer from M-DPS announcing Family Night on Thursday, January 12th, at G. W. Carver Middle School, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Ms. Hofmann also distributed copies of the letter from Dr. Martinez announcing the School Activities Buses. These buses, one for north of Bird Road and one for south of Bird Road, will be available to students who participate in athletics, extra-curricular activities, tutoring opportunities, and/or any other after school activity.

Dr. Martinez stated that a team of personnel from Region IV reviewed the school curriculum. This team included personnel from Region IV and teachers from other schools. The review was very positive and Dr. Martinez received suggestions for improvements.

Ms. Hofmann announced that the SIP Mid-Year review will take place on January 19th, at Ponce De Leon Middle School, from 8:30am to 11:30am. Ms. Hofmann stated that Region IV has requested that a parent be present for this review. Ms. Jackie Garcia and Ms. Sharon Watson stated that they are able to attend this review.

Ms. Hofmann stated that high school articulation will be held at Ponce De Leon Middle School on January 12th, and at Kinloch Park Middle School on January 25th.

Dr. Martinez stated that his staff has created a road map of an 8 period day and it has been submitted to the District. He stated that the District will choose four senior schools to implement the 8 period. If the District approves this, the 8 period day will begin in the 2006-2007 school year. Mr. Blackmon stated that the faculty will have to vote for the 8 period day as this is a waiver to the UTD contract. Dr. Martinez stated that he is considering staggered schedules as the school is over crowded, which is due, in part, to the A+ Plan, remediation, and classroom reduction. He stated that there are 56 sections for remediation alone. Mr. Schneider stated that he would like to see a Foreign Language Academy implemented, if the 8 period day is approved.

The next EESAC meeting will be held on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 2:45pm, in the Media Center. The EESAC rneeting was adjourned at 2:35pm, by Ms. Hofmann, Chairman.
