Special presentations:

Robotics Team:
Ms Seren Evans, Robotics co-sponsor, re-introduced the team and their financial needs. Student members, John Miller, William Raue and Kevin Collao presented Robotics Team services to North Miami Beach Senior High School, along with a brief explanation of following:

Robotics team expenses breakdown form was presented.
Amount requested is $3000.00
The Robotics Team has received $10,000.00 in grants, thus far.
Team has also applied for Perkins Funds, through the office of Industrial and Trade Education.

As a service to the school, the team has put in approximately 30 man hours into greenhouse and more have been committed by sponsor, Mr. Dulanto. Ms Martin explained the purpose of the greenhouse is to help handicapped students learn a trade. Ms Martin motioned matching funds up to $3000 for Robotics. Ms Krantz seconded. Ms. Stauffer abstained from voting. Motion passed unanimously.

Anti-Bullying Poster Campaign

Ms S. Krantz explained the school has begun an anti-bullying poster campaign, aligned with the district’s proposals and concerns. Posters will be hung up throughout the school. She additionally pointed out the bullying anonymous drop box found in the media center. Mr. Luzardo explained how the posters were created by students in 3D animation classes. Request was made for $642 for poster printing supplies. Mr. Fontana motioned for approval; Ms. Martin seconded the motion. Mr Luzardo and Ms Krantz abstained from voting
Motioned approved by unanimous vote.

Marine Academy

Ms Lowell, Marine Academy lead teacher, requested $200 for the setting up of tanks for the program. Jorett Joseph motioned proposal be approved
Brian Cam, seconded. Motioned passed by unanimous vote.

Title One
Mr Fontana explained the importance of free and reduced lunch applications. Title one funds provide for additional teachers, computers and other supplies. Students are regularly encouraged to sign up for free and reduced lunch.

SIP
Mr Fontana explained a new DataCom meeting will be taking place to discuss improvement in testing scores and graduation rates. NMB has improved from a 72% graduation rate to a 78% graduation rate. We are ahead of the county and National Level for graduation. NMB African-American graduation rate is better than national rate. We are now an exemplary school, nationwide.
Brian Cam explained NMB counseling staff responds immediately to student requests, which is directly attributable to graduation success.

Student Report
Holiday caroling in school and community, senior breakfast for first 300 students who apply. The theme is “Cotton Club.” Fashion show: Students in our Fashion Class will be designing clothing.

PTSA
Ms Pellicer reported that over 120 individuals from community and parent population attended the recent job fair. NMB council members were also in attendance. Meet and greet last Tuesday: Three school principals, parents and students were present. Ms Stauffer reported that the new county comissioner, Monestime is an NMB parent and would be a great resource for school.

Faculty/Staff
Ms Krantz reported senior parent night had over 400 parents in attendance. Report Cards were distributed to parents at this meeting. Student histories were also provided to parents at this meeting. For those who were not able to make it to this meeting, a second meeting was held on a Saturday. Over 20 parents were in attendance. Seniors whose parents do not attend this event are not able to participate in senior activities.

The school’s visiting author’s program has now been featured in the Miami Herald, Neighbors section.

Halls are clear. Staff morale is up.

Freshman Academy
Ms Amber Block and Ms Shawna Hutchinson presented a revised proposal for the Freshman Academy. Overall requested funds: $1120.00. Forty Students will be affected by this proposal. Funds are for a Field Trip to the Miami Science Museum and dance. Funds are to reward students who have smoothly transitioned from middle to high school and have taken the FCAT. Students are selected by various subject instructors. Dr. Belmont suggested that Miami-Dade College could provide a science day experience. Miami-Dade College provides bus service and lunch. Freshman Academy leaders chose that rather than take the students to The Science Museum, Miami-Dade College would be a better choice.
Motion for adjusted request, not to exceed $700.00 was made and voted unanimously in favor of.

Alumni Visit
2006 graduate, Amanda Brilliant, after graduating from Florida State came back to visit. She is currently opening her own security company in North Miami Beach.
