I. Acceptance of February 2011 Meeting Minutes

Motion: To approve the minutes as written with the one correction of “help” to “held” in the last paragraph (G. Lazarre)
Second (M. Muniz-Pellicer)
Motion passed unanimously

II. Share Our Strength: P. Stauffer gave a brief description about this national campaign to eliminate child hunger which includes advocacy strategies around increasing access to free school breakfast programs. S. Krantz and M. Rountree explained that in-class breakfasts were provided to kids during testing weeks. They have a sound system for these distributions and did not anticipate needing volunteers to help with it. There were challenges associated with the new computer based math testing since you cannot eat in front of those machines.

III. EESAC Financial Statement: P. Stauffer stated that she did not have a formal statement for this month but would have one for the next meeting. It is expected that the remaining balance is close to zero.

IV. Title I: B. Ridore reported that NMB received approximately 83% of the free lunch applications back but they are still working on formal verification and acceptance of those which is expected by the end of the month. We need to reach 75% to receive the maximum allocation from the federal government.

V. School Improvement Plan (SIP): P Stauffer noted that an electronic copy of the mid-year review report was available on-line and the link had been previously distributed via email to EESAC members for review and comment. B. Ridore explained for the audience the purpose of the SIP. No additions or comments were made for inclusion to the SIP at this time. This plan will be revisited again at the next meeting.

Copies of the SIP and Mid-year Report (as applicable) are available at: https://www.flbsi.org. View Read-Only version of SIP does not require password.

The 2010-2011 SIP review and all recommendations for the 2011-2012 SIP must be documented in the Minutes of the EESAC meeting and posted by Friday, May 13, 2011, to the Office of School Improvement website: https://osi.dadeschools.net.

VI. Reports

PTSA/Parents: G. Lazarre provided a report. Upcoming events include the April 15th scholarship deadline; March 22 beauty fundraiser; and March 26th health expo. PTSA elections will be held on April 21. Selection of parents to EESAC will be made at the first PTSA meeting of next school year. As per the NMB EESAC bylaws, the PTSA President along with four additional parent representatives are elected to EESAC.

Faculty/Administration: S. Krantz gave an overview as to preparation of the master schedule and the complexities of working around budget cuts and core class-size requirements.

N. Glickman provided information about free opportunities to participate in upcoming cultural affairs activities including an event on April 17th with the Playground Theatre. Students are encouraged to participate.
