Approval of minutes:
A. Minutes for the 05/06/2014 meeting were approved (1st - A. Pasternack & 2nd - A. Rodriguez) without the need of further corrections.

Welcome and round table introductions by Mr. R. Luzardo

New business:
A. S. Volcy reviewed the SIP
• The SIP is live document
• 2014-2015 Goals reviewed (SIP pg16)
• New standards are reflected
• The STEM program was highlighted
• R. Luzardo stressed the need for more parental involvement
• There is a need to utilize more media
• Possible application of senior parent night protocols for underclassmen
• The creation of a school Facebook page to target parents (consensus reached and placed into action by R. Luzardo)
• R. Parris shared his idea to have a mid-year parent night highlighting student work
• S. Brown-Rose suggested having a Literacy night
• The 2014-2015 SIP was PASSED (1st - A. Pasternack & 2nd - D. Alexis) pending corrections/additions
B. Request for EESAC funds from $9,585 total budget:
• M. Montesino represented a request for $1000 to purchase computer memory to update teacher computers running the new Promethean boards
1. The school's computer technologist (Larry Hawkins) was called and teleconferenced to clarify concerns
2. The balance of what is being requested will be paid out of the school's budget
3. The request was granted and the motion PASSED (1st - V. Martin & 2nd - A. Pasternack)
• V. Martin represented a request for lawn maintenance machinery in the amount of $599
1. The request was granted and the motion PASSED (1st - K Baxter & 2nd - D. Alexis)
Old business:
• The May meeting minutes for 2013-2014 school year were finalized and APPROVED pending corrections.
Reports & Updates:
• Student updates:
o Homecoming is on October 18, 2014
o Homecoming spirit week will be held on October 13-17, 2014
• PTSA updates:
o First PTSA meeting of the 2014-2015 school year will be held on October 30th during open house between 6 and 7pm
• Faculty and Staff updates:
o A. Rodriguez reviewed that NMB's Literacy Team met and has already implemented several programs to promote literacy
o R. Parris highlighted how yearbook will be fundraising with $1 "selfies"
o S. Brown-Rose shared that FCAT retakers will receive tutoring through the "Boot Camp" program between September 30th through October 3rd through Reading classes
o V. Martin set a new goal for NMB's annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway program and is searching for possible donors
o R. Luzardo imparted updates for the school's newspaper and an upcoming fieldtrip where select students will be taken to Miami-Dade College to participate in an Advanced Placement writing workshop
• Administrative updates:
o Faculty appreciation month will be extended throughout the year with specific administrators taking on certain months
o Departments have begun to nominate candidates for "Teacher of the Month"
o Ninth graders taking a History course will all be receiving a tablet computer once the chargers for the devices have been delivered
o Club performances have begun during lunch time to highlight clubs and encourage more student participation
o NMB's football team will be playing against North Miami SHS on Thursday, October 2, 2014
o The school's identification card making machine is currently not working; a solution is currently being worked towards
• Community updates:
o Miami Dade College will conduct an open house on November 19, 2014 where select NMB students will be bussed in and provided lunch
