Topics Covered:

Madame chair called meeting to order at 3:16 pm.

Mrs. Simon-Gant welcomed the members to the meeting. Began review of last meetings minutes.

Mrs. Martin motioned to accept minutes with fixes to grammatical error. Mrs. Simon Gant second the motion.

Mrs. Simon Gant opened the floor for revision of bylaws.

Eric Moss motioned to accept the bylaws. Frank Torres second the motion. Bylaws were accepted on 10/29/2019

Mrs. Simon Gant began discussion on EESAC Budget. Stressed that requests should be with benefit of all students in mind.

Mr. Milliken: The EESAC Budget is $11,554.07.

Mrs. Simon Gant: We must subtract the $2,999 allotted to the principal for student activities/rewards etc. from the given value.

Dr. Davis states that the word “discretionary” will not be used to describe principals account to avoid confusion.

Mr. Montalvan: To be clear the account balance after the deduction is $8555.07

Mr. Milliken: Described IMPACT Team. With Respect to IMPACT Review we are looking for evidence of Differentiated Instruction, Student Feedback, student cultural evidence, etc. We saw student engagement. We are looking for more corrective feedback so students can use it to further their education. For example, if you wrote an essay teacher feed back should be constructive such as pointing out grammatical errors, correct use of sentence structure, etc. Tardiness is still a big problem. Most of our students come to school, just not on time.

Dr. Davis: There was a lot of positive feedback. We took the personal out of it. Very more impactful.

Mr. Milliken: Let me expound on that. The group was all assigned a specific task. We reported back what we saw not how we felt about a teacher. So, it was very evidence driven. Mrs. Balsano is not here so let’s skip Title 1 for now.

Mr. Ridore: Discussed Quarter 2 Academic and Culture Implementation steps.

Mrs. Simon Gant: Asked clarification on who City Year will Call. Mentioned some issues with the program (Students blocking School Number)

Mr. Ridore expressed who and how it works. Mentioned plans to address those issues.

Dr. Davis questions word choice of Townhall in the penultimate bullet in the implementation step.

Mr. Ridore: “We will keep it as townhall.”

Mr. Moss: Asked about how Data is being used as stated in implementation steps.

Alayna Nonhomme: “Can you elaborate how the attendance competition works and what the award will be?” We have a lot of skeptics.

Mr. Ridore: The award will remain a surprise but do not worry we will deliver.

Mr. Torres: Expressed Principal Money will be used for that.

Mr.Moss: Asked about how weekly common Instructional planning works. How lesson planning templates work.

Mrs. Simon Gant: Expressed the use of data to drive instruction, planning activities, student grouping, lesson planning etc.

Mr.Milliken: Added to lesson plan discussion.

Mr.Montalvan: In the October 25, 2019 EESAC PD they brought up that the EESAC chair could be considered to be part of the leadership team that does the IMPACT Review so I thought I would bring it up as it may be something we want to consider since we in EESAC are always looking to improve the SIP.

Mrs. Simon Gant: Motion to accept SIP Quarter II Implementation.

Mr.Moss second the motion.

Mr.Ridore: November is family engagement month. We will have many initiatives to try to reach out to parents and increase family engagement. One of the initiatives is report card night.

Frank Torres elaborated on Report Card night.

Lenroy Pearson: HIP has begun instructing in the freshmen classes.

Mr. Milliken asked about activities and student engagement through HIP.

Nashlyne PierrePaul: No offence Homecoming Food was not that good. You could see that students didn’t really like it. Decorations were very nice though!

Milliken: Thank you for your concern we will try and let kids know that Homecoming food is meant to be finger food and not necessarily a full blown 3 course meal. That’s more of the case in Prom.

Alayna Nonhomme: Felt like there is a disconnect between students and SGA. Kids expressed concern of theme. Would like to encourage students to express concerns early rather than later.

Mrs. Simon Gant: Maybe try a suggestion box.

Nashlyne PierrePaul: Asked about SGA and student involvement.

Beckerline Pierre: JROTC won 1st place in everything. Every freshman is in JROTC this year. We have troublesome freshmen. We have an overflow of students. But we are slowly but surely seeing an improvement in attitudes.

Mr.Moss: Waiting on PTSA announcement. Has emailed Mrs. Bertani waiting for reply.

Dr. Currie: We have a new President, Dr. Montoya. With regards to the upward bound program. Gives brief description of upward bound program. We have adding coding and information technology classes to the Upward Bound Program. This summer we had many fun activities. We started the academic school year and have closed the enrollment period. But if you have any freshmen that you think would be good candidates, we are willing to take recommendations. In the coming weeks will have our fieldtrip to Barry.

Mrs. Martin: We have an in-house store ran by our special ed students so if you are interested please pass by and share with your club members.

Frank Torres: We recently took our SAT. Scores will be released in the coming days. Testing is continuing.

Dr. Davis: The college tour is coming soon. 47 students have paid. We are still waiting for all students to pay in full. But the majority have paid their first and second installment already. Dr. Davis then described all the colleges that will be visited and planned activities.

Mrs. Boeva: We are still looking for 8 students for the Superintendents Innovation Challenge. There is a mandatory PD for the caoches this coming Monday. So, we will come back with all the information and share. Guest speaker for AP environmental science is coming on Nov 7.

Mrs. Simon Gant brought up Think Pink Week. Asked Alayna to elaborate.

Ms. Balsano: Family Engagement plan is finished. Title 3 tutoring for ESOL students is ongoing. Need help with PTSA. Please spread the word. We do provide all resources in all 3 main languages. We will have special nights for our students in the coming days. Make sure if any surveys go out please make sure that they do come back. New CIA is Brittany Ramsour. She has been doing a lot of home visits. Just a reminder to teachers that that is who they contact if they are having trouble contacting a parent.

Dr. Curry asked about having another scheduled FAFSA night. Balsano replied about initiatives related to FAFSA for parents who weren’t able to come to previous scheduled FAFSA night.

Mr. Milliken: Reached out to students to lead by example. Have conversation with friends, peers, and colleagues about what is right. Stressed the importance of going above and beyond and not being average. Went to DATACOM with Superintendent, his concern is our acceleration rates. Met with staff to come up with ideas to address the issue. Superintendent was concerned with Algebra and Bio data since we are slightly below the district data. However, our Bio Data is higher now when compared to last year. So, we are seeing improvements. Superintendents gave us Kudos on History average. Feeder pattern expo will be on Nov 6, they will be having their demonstration and performance on this day, so I encourage you all to come.

Dr. Davis: We (UTD) are still in the works with negotiations. We are waiting on the date from MDCPS for the third round of negotiations.

Mrs. Simon Gant: So, let’s look at our calendars for the next date. Funding requests will be open for next meeting. Next meeting will be November 14, 3:00 PM. Meeting adjourned.
