Meeting started and quorum reached at 3:27 pm.
Simon-Gant – The first thing that we're going to do is take a look at the minutes from our last meeting. These were sent out to you prior to the meeting.
Dr. Davis -Madam Chair. I'd like to make a motion to accept the minutes as they are. Frank Torres seconds to motion. Okay. All in favor? Aye. None opposed. So the minutes from last meeting have been accepted.
Next we're going to move towards administration.
Mr. Milliken -The budget is, I think at $9000. At this point I printed out a copy from from SAP Probably at 3:05.
Mr. Ridores SIP. Last EESAC meeting, you are on the implementation steps and immediate review for EESAC and this is for SIP. This is what it is right now until later on we went back this sip for your approval. Also the SSR the waiver we voted on on the SSRI and the a three day for contract is coming out in a second now in the faculty meeting and both the educational excellence Advisory Council needs to sign off on this the UTD steward and myself. We model. We have our numbers here for secondary school reform. We had 69 or 70. Percent for. Okay, well we were at 9% for and 11% against. And for the block scheduling. We had 62 yes and seven no. So both pass pretty highly. We're just bringing it to EESAC’s attention. by the faculty. He said chair and UTD and myself will sign off on that. That's it. Okay. Thank you.
Next, you speak for Title One.
Mr. Milliken -Title One, Ms. Balsano was not here today. She's our title one administrator. We are currently updating anything in Title One that they send us. Spending for Title One is pretty much done. We do not spend a great deal in Title One. As far as supplies, I think we had about $200 in supplies. I didn't pull that, that budget, but the majority of our title one money is spent on teachers, coaches, and supplements.

Okay, and that's now going to take a look at a funding request. We're going to hear from Mr. Torres and we'll hear from Miss Andre at the end of both of their presentations, then we'll call him back up just for any questions that you guys may have about each of their funding requests.

Okay, so let's start with who submitted first, Mr. Torres?

Mr. Torres -Yes. I apologize. I didn't make copies. Something that we're kind of having a little bit of difficulty with is our dictionaries for testing. When it comes to our we saw a combination, many of our students who are in level one for the for the salt for that program in the last two years, we've had a total of dictionaries during testing. We want them to have in their default classes, the dictionary and we want them in the testing environment of the dictionary. Our issue is when we try and go back and forth between the two, you lose one hearing there, one gets written on. So we want to have a separate section of dictionaries for our ESL teachers. And for our tests. We have enough it with all of our dictionaries, except for real. So here today I'm requesting 25 dictionaries for at 24.50 each. They are the state approved dictionary and they would be used for the purpose of testing.

Yes, Okay, so next we'll hear from Miss Andre with her presentation.
Good afternoon, my name is Miss Andre and I am representing again, the ESOL department. So thank you. Everything today is for the CIO department. We were having our Black History Month project and what happened was, we discovered that we have a lot of talent with the istudents and what they did. So they will draw what they need, and as teachers we had to buy the paint tool. So that's why we are requesting a color printer, which we'll be using not only for when they have projects, but also when they are using for their personal paper, since they have a project after each unit. So sometimes they can't present, because they can't print it. They will go all over the place just to print it. If you look in the back we have the price for the printer and for the colored ink, which will be five of them for now. And then we have the poster paper to produce a paper we'll be using for when we have projects in class and or in public assets. So with the color printer will take less time for them to do and it will be you know, a more efficient. The total is $587.87.

Okay, thank you Miss Andre. So now we'll go back to Mr. Torres. And if there are any questions or concerns you have about his project, you asked about. this would be a second It set of dictionaries that would be held in what area of the building for testing, to think for testing and all because we have Creole dictionaries, and what the issue that we've had is not enough to get out to the actual teachers. So everything that I have now will be liquidated out to the school. And then these will be held on to. So yes, this would be for me to hold on to, but everything that I have will be going out to teachers who need them now..
Again, this is strictly for testing correct? These would not go out, the ones that we currently have would go out would be going out and then these would be held the new ones for testing to make sure if anyone comes in let's look through the book to see if there's any Oh, okay, okay, because you can't have any type of writing in the in the dictionary.
Whereas ones that might be a little bit older are fine to use for the skills to go through and learn how to use them, but wouldn't be appropriate for today's FSA reading. have accurate numbers on how many of these do we currently have for the Creole Creole but how many expands we proximately approximately Okay, I know that I have 20 with Ms. LaFrance. I know I have 15 with Mr. Katz, I have a only five with me. So that would be 40 that I'm not sure how many more would be floating around 30. This is the only one that is approved. So like with Spanish or French, there's a multitude of different ones that are approved. This is the only one that we're able to get it. Okay, notice that was my question when you were talking and he answered it about whether you could use additional ones but that's the only state approved ones. For Spanish and French we have a few iterations of them but this is a creole that's the only one

Are there. Are there any other questions for Mr. Torres? Make motion. If there's no more questions, I'd like to make a motion to grant Mr. Torres 730…

Dr. Jones - Yes. Yes, I'm not sure that I've been counting and trying to match their face. Yes, I'm with the students what we have in our bylaws is that if the certain students aren't a member is that vice presidents or co captains can come in. So 123456 and then 12345 because we have two APS present. So only one more. One more count. Principal comes up, if the principal is not here, and the principal is there, he doesn't count. Yes. So I am concluding that you don't have quorum right now. No, I have 123. Assistant Principal ,assistant principal duties pstores ECC D. What's your name? James Davis. Okay. 12345 she's our community representative Dr. Michelle Currie-Williams 2345 you remember to factor us 678 the students that is not represented here. You have one alternative to this. Yes. Well, this is what you have in your bylaws, as we'll talk about later. Okay, I'm gonna let you go ahead.

Next, any questions we have for Ms. Andre and her request for the printer for the ESOL department. Please state your name, Natasha. It will go into the resource department which deals with this. Leave it to that like Elena have a legal theory.

You mentioned that all ESOL students could use the printer like if they had a project or something. Would it be open to all students? Or just for now, we said so because he was on the documents, but of course. So like, let's say just a random student walked up and asked, everybody will have access to it. If the office is open, he allowed it.

Mr. Milliken - So just a suggestion if it was passed out approved with Andre, just like I did, what you could do is add a layer and he set it up to just keep it on the open domain so anyone can read from it. Okay, like, we have an associate. Did the Dr. Davis or the printer for Well, it wasn't from It was so nice. We're going to the silver Knights printer arrive. Okay, and it's on the network under.
So I don't influence the vote, please. Okay. How's it once printed? And also, as a principal, what I would ask is that it would have you'd have to go through a teacher. So you'd have to go through a teacher's approval. So what if you couldn't print from the from the student portal? You'd have to go through a teacher that's how it would be right regulated that way, you know, we're actually printing projects that are you know, school related.
. To them my question would be what, what is different or better about this specific printer than the approved for social poster size? I think he's yours post does yours do posters? It does not just this one do posters. Well that's what I had on the poster paper but like 13 by 13 by 19 set the margin. Okay. Right. I just have a quick question. This is through an approved vendor, right? Yes. Okay. Is it through a minority vendor be even better check them is power.

Dr. Davis make a motion that we accept the proposal at $587.87 cents for this proposal for the printer. Okay, all in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Okay, so Miss Andre your proposal for the printer for $587.87 cents has been accepted. Once the minutes are written up, you'll get a copy and you can take it to Ms. Powell. To fill your purchase order.

Okay, so now we'll move towards our reports and updates. So students, I'll start with SGA or January.

Wow. So um, since the last meeting we had February fundraisers last Valentine's Day was cool. We have is that where they throw to the teachers? If you missed it, the gist of it was I got hit twice before Dr. Davis got on chase to sleep. Yeah. But that was fun, like, um, so I think more events like that will be coming just to like promote school spirit, camaraderie between students and staff. I thought it was pretty funny. We're still collecting uniform donations. I think I mentioned that last meeting. We're still collecting uniform donations for our uniform. And SGA meets every Tuesday. So if you have any kids that are interested in making a difference in the school, let them know directly. Oh, yes. And I also mentioned basketball last time.

So we're we are district runner up your second industrial trophy in the trophy case. Thank you. So basically, we had our recently had our religions and we have a new board for the upcoming year so kind of be resigning, so you'll be seeing some new faces in here. Okay, thank you. I'm sorry. Because I won't be president about VPP okay. I think we just got done with grant. And there's still so many senior senior people on tickets which is next Wednesday and also on for cheer.
We're getting ready for competition which is in April. And also for wholesale. We're getting ready for our own certification test is so that includes CNA EKG and picnic tickets. Okay, is that for students?

Oh, I'll be speaking on behalf of band and I will say our appreciation for our recent competition that solo and ensemble because we never really get announced and we were in I'm also very good. I'm not we don't have PTSA and not here.

So next to community,
Dr. Currie Williams, where Miami Dade College North Campus will host an open house on March the 19th. And that's going to be from 5pm to 8pm. That is actually also sorry, that is. Oh, that's also the date that tentatively, my Dean from the college will come to speak to our upper bound students. We're doing kind of a career day with upper bound and I've asked several of my colleagues to come by if they have it on the schedule. If not, they'll hopefully be able to speak over the summer and open house for him.
See I have 13 students so far that have completed their dual enrollment forms. And so now that I know who will be doing the PERT, we will schedule a date for that. I know I mentioned, I think back in January that we might be, but we did get the books for the color purple. And so we read the book. Some of the students have started looking at the film. Her group will start on tomorrow looking at the film, and then we're going to go to the Broadway show.
Next one, go to administration.
Mr. Milliken - I'm going to give up a little bit of my time to Mr. Torres.
Mr. Torres- Okay, Last Tuesday, we took the ACT. The ACT was a non reportable ACT with extended time that was open . So when we do a non reportable it's just really for graduation. Wednesday, we have 74 seniors that are going to be taking a non reportable SAT. This is also an extended time, hour and a half time and a half. So these students are taking it. The majority of them are taking it just for the reading. We have six students who also need The math So they will have been extended time.
April 14, we have a fully reportable SAT we only have about 10 of them left there $8 per person. So if you're a junior, and you know that you want to use that score for college, this is the least expensive way without a waiver, that you can take it and it will be during the school day. So you don't have to worry about getting anywhere going to a new place. It's only here. So if you're someone who hasn't signed up yet, and you would like to, you know, somebody come talk to Mr. Torres is right here. Anything, make sure that you get on that list. And what's special about that one is our ESL students will be able to get time and a half and still send that scores to college. So that's super important to give them every opportunity that they can have to make sure that they have other things to think about.

Thank you, sir.
Mr. Milliken - Administration and we've been doing walkthroughs. last two weeks ago, we did the IR, the IR which was the instructional review, and went very well. One of the big feedback was was checks for understandings by teachers to make sure that teachers are checking kids to make sure they understand question. So they're asking in depth questioning, not answering their own questions. We all had teachers like that sometimes our teachers, you know, slip up a little bit and I go, do you guys know the answer, right? And the answer is B, right? And there was like, No, answer B. Yeah. B. Yeah. So we we do and that's an exaggeration. But we, we we look for things like that we look for student work, we look for student engagement. We look for rotations, but mostly we look to see if the, in the core classes that the mid year assessments are being used and the data was being used to create groups for students. I went to DATACOM last week with the superintendent and presented. Our biggest issue that I brought up and was asked of me was our 9th and 10th grade reading scores. We need to make sure that our proficiency it gets to a higher spot. They were concerned about our geometry and our algebra, they were very happy with our biology and our US history. And they were very happy with our student attendance and our teacher attendance. So that was DATACOM. Saturday school for us begins this weekend. We're going to go from eight to 12. The students will go from nine to 12, the teachers eight to 12. We're going to push algebra and which are my main concerns during DATACOM which was ninth grade in 10th, grade ELA and algebra, geometry. Those are the things we're going to be pushing for that weekend session. We're also going to have Saturday excuse me, Spring Break Academy coming up, and we're going to push those same two areas. Those are our, our deficit.

So you're going to see a common theme we're going to start chasing ninth and 10th grade ELA and we're going to start chasing night algebra and geometry. Athletics. Again, congratulations to basketball second in the district, the girls have heart wrenching loss at pace, but the girls came out and push really hard and you know what they, they played their hearts out and they you know, they played a good team and unfortunately, we came out on the losing end, but we had a great season. And the girls I think learned a lot from that coming together as a group their baseball softball track and flag football has started. So if you get a chance, go out there and support them, especially teachers and, uh, you know, go out there and, you know, find ways to incentivize your kids to go out and support because the kids you know, Elena's here, she'll Tell you what, it's nice to have somebody in the stands cheer for you and, and go Don't do that. Shoot, you should have no trouble. But are second guessing you during a game like that some of these teachers could do better. So, no, no, I missed you. You were quite the shooter So, uh, but no, we do a good job without a supporting and organize something with your club organized something with your with your, you know whatever group you're with, I know the cheerleaders go out and do a great deal of supporting during all the events of lockdown.

We had a lockdown the other day. For real. It was not a drill. And I gotta tell you, with the exception of one small mistake, it went very, very well. We went into a lockdown because of and I think I went over on the loudspeaker with you guys. And that was that's one of the things that I got to try to remember to do all the time. And I and I think I have is that keep coming on. Talking and telling you guys what's going on so that you're not sitting there going, Oh, is this a drill? Is this real? It's not. But it was a there was a robbery in the neighborhood. And so they put us on lockdown us, JFK Fulford and sable palm Grendel's did not go lockdown. We went into lockdown, we went into hard corners. You guys did a great job of put my people up and made sure that the doors were locked, but they were already locked. Every kid was in a room. And then we came back and we came out of our corners but stayed in a lockdown. So outside of the teachers, I'm hoping the teachers know but the kids what do you understand the reason behind that? What the Why we go into hard corners. What is it? Right and then but once we know we've isolated it outside the building, we still don't want to come out of lockdown. So you guys did a great job of you know, staying in lockdown and not coming out and then being able to come out of hard corner so I was very pleased with the performance of both the kids and the staff. Graduation I we've already announced that we went to myself, Dr. Volcy and Mrs. Britani. We went last to FIU Ocean Bank Center. We are scheduled for June 1. early this year 9am..

Next meeting is scheduled for March 31st at 3pm.
