Meeting Minutes - January 26, 2023

1. Welcome
a. INTRODUCTIONS
2. Review and Approval of Prior Minutes
a. Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
i. Ms. Hepburn-Murray motions to approve the minutes and second by Ms. Stovall
ii. The budget is confirmed to be 10,863.13
3. Mid-year SIP Review
a. Mid-year reflection report due tomorrow 1/27
b. Ms. Fray gave an overview of the areas of and how the school met the challenges described in the SIP
c. Mr. Milliken tells the committee how he has approached walk-throughs for Elective classes
4. Title One
a. No new updates
b. Ms. Fray feels as if there is more going on related to title one than is being reported
5. Review of Budget and Approval of Funding requests balance from $10,863
a. Ms. Maryns program will receive $250 from EESAC (previously approved)
i. Keeping that in mind the new balance that we have is $10,613.13.
b. Mr. Milliken’s incentives $2999
i. Money will be used for incentives like pizza and candy throughout the school year.
ii. Ms. Stovall requested a report on how the money, given to Mr. Milliken is being spent.
1. Is there a way we can see how this money well, I would like for you to report how this money is spent.
iii. Mr. Milliken gives an example of how the money was spent in the past.
iv. Dr. Davis asks for clarification on how the money on the reporting of funds given to Mr. Milliken.
1. So how do you want him to report?”
2. Ms. Stovall recommends making a yearly report on how the money was spent.
a. “ You can do like at the beginning of next year or the end of this year of how you spent that without the $2999.”
3. Dr. Davis and Ms. Stovall agree.
v. Ms. Martin motions to approve Mr. Milliken’s requests and Ms. Hepburn-Murray Seconds.

c. Logitech wireless keyboards (School technology)- ELA requests $3,000 - Kaylin Lee
i. The Active Panel 9has accessories that add more functionality but not everything the teachers need.
ii. Increase online safety and increase instructional time- “So in efforts to aid increase safety and be instruction time to not type things very, very slowly. The request is to implement these Logitech keyboards that also have mouse's attached to them as well.”
1. Student and teacher passwords will be protected
a. Mr. Milliken- “Can you explain to them why the password is an issue well I'll demonstrate”
2. Using a wireless keyboard enables teachers to move around the room while having access to manipulate the Prometian Boards.
a. Ms. Lee- ‘If we also want to continue to model 21st century learning, we're going to need to make sure that our technology is updated as we get new technology into our building.
3. Ms. Hepburn asked for clarification about teachers who already have a wireless keyboard.
4. I'm not sure whether or not this will apply for the technology aspect of it. But I'll double check but still put digital photographic is a great idea.

a. Students
i. Upward bound-
1. GEMS are planning to sell snow cones for $1 after school at least two to three times a week throughout the month of February, with the upper bound trio day taking place on February 25.
2. Trio day-Ashelene and Michelle Currie “ …it's a day that we come together their speakers, there's motivational things, workout sessions and things like that on the conference for the students. And it's usually the same day throughout the state or the nation.
ii. NHS- Stephainia Ortilla
1. NHS is hosting a barbecue every Friday in February, except for the 25th.
iii. WOT
1. Discussed the importance of appreciating others and participated in an activity of giving positive affirmations. The next meeting is scheduled for February 27.
iv. Ms. Lee
1. -Students in a 10th Grade English class had a Zoom call with Dr. Claude L. Carter, a freedom writer, to discuss real-life situations and read letters from a Birmingham Jail, the Clergies “Call to Unity Speech, Amanda Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb", and watch videos. Approximately 60 students participated and enjoyed the experience.
2. “We were able to tie in their academic learning with practical experiences”
v. SGA/ class of 2024- Andre
1. SGA is working to plan events for February, including Black History Month and Valentine's Day, and has approved a junior branch for 50 students with the possibility of 100.
2. Jean Day is scheduled every Friday in the month of February
vi. HOSA
1. In preparation for a competition, HOSA held a carnival where they discussed topics such as drugs and their effects. They spoke to multiple students to explain their topic and let them ask questions.
2. “We did a carnival to prep us for January 21, which was our wholesale competition. So allows us to prepare for telling judges about our topic which was for example, drugs and the effects of it. On January 20. The for the carnival we spoke to multiple students explaining our topic “

viii. Boys Soccer- Marcus
1. Boys lost their last game of the season and are disappointed but are overall happy with their performance this season.
ix. Band
1. Solo and ensemble audition
a. “We're currently working for our solo and ensemble auditions and we're about 10 of us are going there”
2. Honors band is working on auditions and
b. PTSA/Parents
c. Community
i. Miami Dade College recently opened the HOLA Grant to provide students with opportunities to take STEM-related courses. The college also offers several scholarship opportunities, including the Presidential Scholar and American Dream scholarships, which provide full tuition. Virtual one-on-one appointments are available for students to speak with advisors and financial aid personnel. MDC is college is also taking students to Trio Day at Palm Beach State Community College on the 25th of this month.
d. Faculty/Staff
i. Ms. Martin’s Second Hand Store is getting a huge donation from The Vi.
e. Admin-Mr. Milliken
i. We have an Impact review February 13
ii. Administration recently completed the PM 1 and PM 2 tests and saw an improvement of 7 percentage points for 9th graders and 12 percentage points for 10th graders. The Winter Break Academy was a success, with 92 kids attending and teachers providing instruction for two or three areas. The Spring Break Academy will take place during the first four days of spring break and teachers are being sought to participate.
