III. School Advisory Committee: (Review Bylaws and Vote on Members)
a. The purpose is to ensure improved student achievement
b. The Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC) is responsible for the final decision making at the school relating to the implementation of school improvement and accountability
c. EESAC also assists in the preparation and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP)
i. Develop annual budget
ii. Make decisions regarding the use of funds allocated by the Florida Legislature
iii. Help develop fundraising projects for the school (incentives for 100% participating tutoring students beginning in November)
II. Approval of October Minutes

• New curriculum for 6-12 grades
• Includes one novel per nine weeks
• Novel can be purchased through Firebird shop $8 each
• Practices literary analysis, connections with multiple texts, and writing
• Follows state standards

• Incorporated through 6-12 including AP Language & AP Literature
• Improves vocabulary, fluency, reading speed and comprehension
• 80% mastery is required on ALL assignments in order to receive an A grade; an F for incomplete sessions; and a Z for no work completed

o Parents placed the concern on the amount of work that is given to students. Mr. Ferralls spoke to parents about the rigor here at Doral Academy. Other parents also commented that because of the rigor their children have been able to succed in real life. Parents also placed concern on the lack of family time they have. Ferralls explained that due to Common core is does take students to put more time in their studies.

a. Doral Performing Arts and Entertainment academy was awarded the blue ribbon award

VI. Parent Volunteer hours
a. High School -Natalie in the office
b. Middle school hours report to Valentina
c. You must obtain clearance through Dade county public schools portal volunteer clearance system. This must be done through Miami-Dade county public schools and cannot be done in person at Doral.
d. There are different levels of clearance depending on what you would like to volunteer for.
e. Any overnight chaperones must have level 2 clearance
VII. Testing Updates ( EOC Retakes, ELA Writing Field Test, Mid-Year assessments)
a. Doral Academy charter high school has been selected to participate in the writing ELA field test
i. All students grades 9-11 will be testing on December 18 & 19
b. Students will be taking the Mathematics and reading mid year district assessments
Beginning on Monday November 17th, 2014.
