The meeting was opened by school principal, Mr. Jose Bueno. EESAC Chair, Linda Belkin, welcomed all to the first EESAC Meeting of the 2009-2010 school year. Assistant Principal, Viviana Lebena, explained what the School Improvement Plan (SIP) is and that the main components of the document places emphasis on FCAT Subject areas. Furthermore, Mrs. Lebeña explained the percentage of students at the school who are scoring mastery in tested areas. Academic goals and objectives were also explained in terms of percentages. The budget in the last part of the SIP was reviewed. Mrs. Belkin explained the goals, objectives and strategies in the area of writing. Mrs. Lebeña conveyed and placed emphasis on Science and the need for improving the 27% achieving mastery. Mr. Bueno then explained the percentage of students scoring mastery at both the district and state levels. The online science program, Gizmos, was introduced to the committee and explained that it is being used to strengthen students in science skills. Then, Mr. Bueno explained the recognition program to the members and informed parents how the program works in terms of committee development, faculty voting, and principal approval. The Recognition plan should be ready to present at the next EESAC Meeting. Mr. Bueno took suggestions on meeting days and times for future EESAC dates. Finally, EESAC member Ms. Covone made a motion to approve the School Improvement Plan and Ms. Cartwright, another EESAC member, second the motion. The School Improvement Plan was approved 100% by all members. A motion was then made to close the meeting.
