EESAC Minutes – October 15, 2009
The 3rd ESSAC Meeting of the 2009-2010 commenced at 4:45 pm by EESAC Chair Ms. Linda Belkin. Mr. Ramos read the minutes from the last meeting. Mr. Bueno made a motion to approve the minutes and Ms. Diana Gonzalez second the motion and the minutes were approved. Mr. Bueno explained that the yearly campaign for the United Way has begun for school employees and students. For students, money is being collected during homeroom and on Friday, October 16, the school will be having a student dress down day for $2.00 for the United Way campaign. Furthermore, in following with the goals and implementation of the School Improvement Plan, updates were given by attending department members. In Language Arts, the students are incorporating writing through the e-folio software program and the Orange Bowl Contest. Also, the Language Arts and Social Studies departments will be meeting on Friday, October 16th to review the new benchmarks and how to incorporate them into their daily lessons. In Language Arts, curriculum/reading/text selections for classes was also addressed. In Science, as implementation from one of the goals of the School Improvement Plan, virtual labs with the Gizmo’s software program is occurring. In Mathematics, the VMath program and competition has begun. All the students now have accessibility to VMath. Furthermore, VMath books are being laminated for future use and assessments for advanced courses will be offered for mathematics as high school preparation. Further, district competitions in math and with the math club are in the works. Next, an update was given on a professional development that is being offered in the school for teachers involving Compass Learning. Lastly, a reminder was given about attendance and participation for an ESSAC Training at Barbara Goleman Senior High on October 20, 2009. Mr. Bueno motioned to adjourn the meeting and Ms. Covone second the motion. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 18th at 4:30 pm.
