The meeting was called to order at 8:20 a.m. by Sandra Ames in the Media Center of Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center.
The minutes from November 3, 2009 were read and approved with no changes.
Old Business:
A discussion was held about what types of FCAT Incentives should be purchased with the $500.00 set aside for this purchase. It was agreed upon that in the past our students have responded best with food and snacks as incentives so this would be where the money would be spent.
New Business:
The first items discussed were approval of the new members elected to the EESAC and approval of our EESAC roster. Those persons present all agreed on the updated EESAC roster and no changes were made.
Ms. Sandra Ames spoke about funds for a field trip. She has check transportation and found the average cost for 50 persons is between $1,200 and $1,300 for a bus. Trip destinations would be Cape Kennedy, Universal Studios, or Sea World. Any Friday trips are out due to Grad Nite. We would have to take our students on a week day. She also said she had sent an email to Disney, Sea World and Universal regarding ticket prices. Sea World replied that there are no teacher discounts at this time. Ms. Ames said we have enough money to pay toward admission as well as the bus cost.
Ms. Naima Bradman spoke about motivation for Accelerated Reader competition within the school. The contest could run close to FCAT.
Ms. Sylvia Hadley will check Student Government funds to see what is available that could be used for test incentives. Ms. Constance Gilbert will help with incentive ideas for the field trips.
Ms. Webb said we can give packs of baby wipes as an incentive on the lower end of the point system.
Those present agreed to do an in-county field trip with GPA and conduct as two of the qualification criteria.
A discussion was held as to the viability of having two field trips – one trip on May 28, 2010 for those students who pass the Reading and Mathematics FCAT, and one trip for those who pass the Writing FCAT. Some ideas for destinations for field trips were Parrot Jungle, Seaquarium, or Monkey Jungle.
Ms. Webb said 100% of the students were tested in all grades. Our students’ science scores declined. We are shooting for 88% of our 8th and 10th graders to score a 4 in Reading.
Attendees present reviewed the mid-year data for the SIP. Ms. Webb said everyone will get a copy of the Mid-Year SIP when it is completed.
Ms. Aster Mohamed from the Parent Academy spoke briefly about what they do. They have workshops in the mornings, evenings, and on Saturdays for students, parents and/or both. As incentives for attendance they offer $25.00 Target gift cards and Viscaya admission tickets.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:01 a.m.
