Topics Covered

1. Approval of Minutes: The EESAC minutes were approved.
2. School Improvement Plan (SIP) 2010-2011: Every strategy cited on the School Improvement Plan (SIP) for the 2010-2011 school year is being implemented. The Leadership Team is monitoring classes in order to ensure fidelity to the SIP.
3. School Operations:
• The Miami Dade Water & Sewer Department (M-DWASD) has removed seven (7) septic tanks from the property. Workers have also adjoined the plumbing system at Broadmoor E.S. to the city’s sewer lines. There are some concerns since this transition. On November 2, 2010, a problem was identified with our connection to the sewer system. On November 9, 2010, workers located the source of the problem. The areas affected are as follows:
a. Media Center: Area near the humidifier is leaking.
b. Art Room/Pre-K Area: Foul odor emitting every few days. Workers are trying to identify the source.
c. Kindergarten Area (Rear): Warning! There is no manhole or grate cover. This issue is being addressed. Teachers are asked to avoid having children play in this area. Wait to receive clearance from administration to use this area.
• Morning Routine in the Main Hallway: Ms. Welch brought a concern that there are too many parents waiting in the hallway and thus causing the flow of students through this area to be interrupted. Ms. Klein stated that she will investigate this issue.

4. Curriculum Issues:
• F.A.I.R. testing window will open on November 22, 2010 for grades K-2 and November 29, 2010 for grades 3-5.
• Brainiac Bash: Students in grades 3-5 who meet mastery (70% and above) on either the Reading or Mathematics Interim will be able to attend a dance in their honor to reward their testing efforts. Please check your email for additional information regarding date, time, and location. The teachers in grades K-2 are asked to develop an appropriate assessment that can be used to measure progress so that the students in this grade can be rewarded as well. These students although will not attend the dance, but rather will attend a special event the administration will plan for them.
• ELMO: The issue of distributing these document viewers was brought up at the meeting by Ms. Quintero. Ms. Klein says that she will take into consideration many factors before giving the boxes to teachers. She will meet with Mr. St. Cry to discuss the matter.

5. Budget:
• Student Response Systems (SSR): The original quote from Xerox was $699 for each transmitter. Four (4) transmitters are needed so that the sets of responders can be distributed among 3-5 grades. The price has since dropped significantly. Xerox now has an offer of $339 per transmitter. The order has been placed. Under the Annenburg Grant, two transmitters and two cases were ordered. The other two were purchased with Title I monies. The EESAC funds are still available. These funds do not roll over and must be used, otherwise they will be encumbered by the District.
• FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) for Students: On November 29, 2010, the budget will be interfaced with the FTE (actual student count) and we will be able to see all the monies in each account.
6. Title I:
• Ms. Connor has accepted a teaching position. Her funds will be used towards possibly purchasing some materials from Curriculum Associates. This company sells phonics-based materials. They sent the administration some sample materials for Reading. Administration is reviewing the materials. If purchased, they will be used as supplemental materials in order to support instruction using the new clusters in Reading.
• As previously stated, two (2) student response system transmitters and two cases were purchased using Title I funds.
• These funds must be used prior to December. If they are not used, the budget for the next year is cut.
• The draft of the school's Parental Involvement Plan (PIP) was presented. Those parents present made no suggestions for revisions. Mr. Rosario made a motion to approve the PIP policy as written. Motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
7. New Business: No items.
8. Following a call for "Questions, Comments, and Concerns," the meeting was adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
