OLD BUSINESS:

Mrs. King gave feedback on the presentation given on 6/4/03. She asked how we felt the presentation had gone.

Overall, everyone thought the presentation went well and was effective.

BRAINSTORMING FOR STERLING

• Ms. Bradman described the interaction with the Nursery workers as they completed the surveys. Mrs. King indicated we needed to use the survey responses.

• Ms. Ames thinks we have a lot to do to get ready for the Sterling Challenge. We need to make sure students attend bonding time with their children. Checks and balances to ensure students go to their bonding sessions were discussed.

• Ms. Clarington said we need to compile the results from the survey and address the key areas of need, then do a follow-up to the survey.

• Ms. Hamlin suggested we compile the information taken on the students’ exit interviews.

• Ms. Pratt suggested after compiling the information taken from the survey that we have an in-service to get feedback.

• Mrs. King said it will not always be possible to have everyone together for all in-services.

• Ms. Day suggested we sit with different people at staff meetings in order to get to know them better.

• Ms. Allen said we have to build relationships – specifically by learning what others’ jobs are.

• Ms. Gilbert thought it would be helpful to have teachers and staff visit other areas for an hour or two to see what everyone does.

• Ms. Ames said it would be good for the paraprofessionals to start completing activity sheets for the accreditation process.

• Ms. Gilbert also said we could get the Jump Start Program for free from the library.

• Ms. Allen said we need to help students to be better parents.

• Ms. Bradman suggested that maybe the nursery workers could do a presentation of what they do daily.

• Teachers and nursery workers need to get together so they can reinforce learning. If nothing else, need to take a tour of each other’s area (walk through).

• Ms. Goins thought we could do role playing scenarios for more effectiveness in the staff meeting in-services.

Mrs. King said any implementation of these ideas will be in addition to the work required to complete the application for the Sterling Challenge. We could do this in subcommittees.

Ms. Ames read out the names of subcommittee members. Recruiting will be done to get more members to join these committees. We need to get the paraprofessionals and teachers on these committees.

Mrs. King said we also need to make sure that at least one person on each committee has a copy of the Sterling books. She asked EESAC members to look at the Sterling books during the summer. While doing that, start jotting down areas we feel are applicable to us here and documentation we will need to show what we’re doing.

By the first day everyone returns from summer vacation, we need to do something to remind people we are ready to work on the Sterling Challenge. It can be banners, ribbons, little timelines, etc.

NEW BUSINESS:

Ms. Bradman suggested we exchange e-mail addresses and phone numbers of the EESAC members. We did this.

A half day content training session for SPEP is scheduled on August 19, 2003.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:37 a.m.
