Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. The minutes from April 5, 2011 were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan, (SIP). Mr. Rivers asked for feedback on SIP strategies. Members responded that teachers have given their input by department. At the last meeting, Mrs. Gonzalez told parents that they could submit strategies at today’s meeting. No strategies were submitted.

Principal’s message: Mr. Rivers presented the message in Mrs. Gonzalez’s absence. The Spanish AP exam started at 8:00 a.m. this morning for Spanish IS students. The end-of-the-year concert is tonight at 7:00 p.m. Algebra I and Geometry students are practicing end-of-course (EOC) exams and will take the actual test on May 9 through May 20 . The PTSA Teacher Appreciation Luncheon is on May 5. The general PTSA meeting, German AP exam, and distribution of progress reports are May 6. The French AP exam is at noon on May 10 . On May 11, Carver will be recognized at the School Board meeting for winning the Magnet School Merit Award. Also on May 11, the Student Council convention will occur with guest speaker Raquel Regalado, School Board member. On May 12, we will have the National Junior Honor Society induction and Carver Hall of Fame ceremonies. May 13 is Francophone day hosted by the French department. May 13 also marks the Science Teacher of the Year event, and Mrs. Martinez is our nominee. May 14 is the GIPA parent night out. The Cinderella Opera, hosted by Mrs. Harmon and Mrs. Di Pietro, is on May 19. Hoop-It-Up! for grade 8 is on May 20. Awards ceremonies for all three grades are on May 23. Final-exam review week is May 24-June 1. FCAT writing scores are expected before June 1, which is the date of the Perfect 6 ceremony. Mr. Rivers said schools are uncertain exactly when FCAT scores will arrive. The final exam schedule is as follows: June 2 (periods 2 and 6), June 3 (periods 3 and 7), June 6 (periods 4 and 1), and June 7 (period 5). June 2 also is the reunion for former Carver students who are graduating from high school this year. Eighth-graders will participate in the etiquette course on June 8. June 9 is last day of school and the eighth-grade banquet.

Open Forum: Mr. Sands said that the Student Council elections will be May 11 and 12. Mrs. Daniels said seventh-grader Tomas Nieves won first place at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair golf tournament; the county finals are May 18. Mr. Sands said the Washington, D.C. trip will take place on May 5 through 7.
