Topics Covered

1. Call to order: 3:15 p.m.
2. Update by principal, Betty Riera
a. Results of the 2003 FCAT were discussed.
b. Administration and staff are very happy with 2003 FCAT results and learning gains made.
c. Stated that the school's performance was that of "N", which denotes schools with scores for the first time; therefore the school will not be graded, which is unfortunate because of its high achievement, specifically in math where 81% of students were meeting high standards.
d. Expressed that the Accelerated Reader Program has benefited the school greatly with respect to reading comprehension.
e. 2003-2004 school year waiting list continues to grow.
f. Part of the school's success this past year is due to our partnerships with community sponsors, such as the City of Miami Police Department and McDonald's.

3. Update by Board of Director, Alejandro Remos
a. Alejandro Remos congratulated both teachers and administration for their success this 2002-2003 school year.
b. The 2003-2004 waiting list is evidence of the community and parental support of this school.

4. Question/Answer Session/ Recommendations/ Comments:
a. Monika Blasko-expressed satisfaction with the FCAT after-school tutoring program and stated that she felt that the tutoring program was really what made a difference in the success of the students' test-taking skills.
b. Cristina Aguilar-expressed gratitude toward the teachers and administration for volunteering their time after school regarding the success of students' test-taking skills.
c. Rene Perez-expressed his satisfaction with the 2002-2003 science fair and also stated that the science fair truly exposed students to the scientific method.
d. Wrap-up by Betty Riera-Highlights of the school year:
i. Children would be rewarded for their performance on FCAT with a summer field trip to a water theme park.
ii. Graduation and Awards Ceremony will take place at the Manuel Artime Theater.
iii. Congratulated all teachers and parents on a job well-done this 2002-2003 school year.
