Topics Covered

1. Approval of Minutes: Last month’s meeting minutes were reviewed and approved.
2. SIP Reviews/Updates:
The 2012-2013 School Improvement Plan (SIP) has been sent to the State of Florida. Goals and Strategies were discussed by the committee members. As a reminder that all grade levels should be referring to the SIP in their grade level meetings to ensure that strategies are being used to meet to goals outlined therein.
4. RtI/Leadership Team Reviews/Updates:
Ms. Klein is in the process of clarifying the issue regarding Success Maker interventions. Ms. Klein had the opportunity to speak with many of the teachers about the correlation about the Success Maker Area of Weakness report and the District’s Fall Interim Overall Performance analysis. Many teachers saw that the data was consistent.
Teachers should identify students who are considerations for retention or are in need of intervention at this time in the year. Gradebook should also be considered as part of the overall snapshot when submitting student names for retention.
5. Title I Parent Involvement Plan (PIP):
Title I items should be part of grade level meeting minutes. For example, Ms. Quintero is paid using Title I funds. Therefore, if she provides support to your grade level, it should be documented in your meeting minutes. If Ms. Rosario has to conduct a home visit, you should document this usage of Title I resources.
6. Open Forum Discussion:
School Operations
As cited in the the RtI/Leadership Team Reviews/Updates section, all teachers should consider Gradebook as part of the student’s source information. Additionally, primary teachers should consider the grades being issued in Art and Physical Education. There should be no instances of straight A’s for the entire classroom without adequate instructional time devoted to these subject areas. If the student is being considered for retention, the parent may have an issue with straight A’s in some subjects and refused to proceed.
The following is a tentative schedule of events in the cafeteria:
November: Student assembly (students only).
December: Holiday Program (Parents are invited to attend)
January: Student assembly (students only).
The dates and times will be announced. Teachers should be instructing students on how audiences behave in theaters, plays, and other performances.
Curriculum Issues
7. Budget Reviews/Updates:
Ms. Klein would like to request the use of EESAC funding to purchase cordless microphones for the cafeteria. Ms. Klein submitted a handout to EESAC regarding the specifications of the equipment and estimate of the cost. This sound system is portable and would benefit the entire school especially during the upcoming assemblies and programs. Ms. Klein will be consulting with Mr. Garcia (parent of Natalia Garcia) and Mr. White (Ms. Welch’s spouse) on whether this equipment will meet our needs or if the existing equipment can be enhanced with some smaller devices such as a USB Wireless adapter. The manufacturer is Teaching Edge and the cost is approximately $1,300 US.
8. Title I: no new Title I items.
9. New Business: no New Business items.
10. Comments/Concerns: There are no comments/concerns from parents.
If there is a student who has accumulated more than 15 absences. You may require assistance from the Community Involvement Specialist.
Clorox: The company has been contacted regarding some issues on their website. Please refer to Ms. Klein’s email for corrected and updated information about how to vote for our school to receive a grant for a new playground.
Report Card Pick-Up: Mandatory Report Card Pick-Up will take place tomorrow in the Media Center. Grades K -1 will remain in their classrooms. This initiative lasts until 6:00 p.m. unless you have made contact with all of your parents and can confirm that no one will be coming to the school after hours.
Question (Estriplet): Regarding our discussion about retention/interventions…Can you speak with special areas about giving students all A’s as well?
(Klein): I will speak with them as well. Ms. Quintero will also address this in her minutes.
Question (Estriplet): One of my student’s mother told me that they want him removed from Spanish class because he received a C.
(Klein): He cannot be removed because of his ESOL level.
Reminder: There will be a faculty meeting tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. in the Media Center. Please be on time.
EESAC decided not to meet in the month of December.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
