Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Ingrid Robledo, chairman, called the EESAC meeting to order at 8:19am. The previous minutes were reviewed and revised. Minutes were approved by consensus.
Mrs. Robledo informed members that the main purpose of this meeting was to go over some changes that have been made to the 2003-2004 School Performance Excellence Plan (SPEP).
Mrs. Gonzalez brought members up-to-speed on the status of the SPEP. She went over the required changes made to the plan by the District and Access Center IV. Evidently the District still shows that Carver did not meet adequate yearly progress in ESOL because we did not have the correct percentage of students tested. According to our school’s record, we did meet yearly progress and are in the process of disputing it at this time. However, regardless of the outcome, we will be including an objective for ESOL in the SPEP.
We are also adding an advanced academic objective for 7th grade IE students. This objective will cover all grade levels and programs, but for accountability purposes it had to be written on the SPEP specifically for 7th grade IS students. In addition, Mrs. Gonzalez briefly talked about persuasive and expository writing and explained that even though Carver students scored lower in persuasive writing, there were more students scoring in the lower levels (levels 1 and 2) in expository writing. She stressed how minimal these percentages were, even ridiculous in comparison to most other schools, but never the less she had gone ahead and included strategies for persuasive and expository writing.
Mrs. Gonzalez explained that the SPEP is a work in progress. She met with the Director of Access Center IV and was able to maintain the plan as it was, with only the two minor changes mentioned above (include objective for ESOL, and include advance academics objective). However, this document is still being revised and she will inform all EESAC members of changes, but she does not foresee any problems.
Mrs. Robledo and Mrs. Gonzalez acknowledged everyone involved in this project for their dedication and long hours worked. Mrs. Robledo specifically thanked Mrs. Stroleny, Mrs. Szmulewicz, and Ms. Gramling. She also announced that Ms. Gramling had been selected as G.W. Carver’s Teacher of the Year. Everyone congratulated Ms. Gramling.
Mrs. Robledo thanked everyone for coming and adjourned the meeting at 8:55 AM.
