Topics Covered

The meeting was called to order at 8:03 a.m. by Sandra Ames in the Media Center of Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center.

The minutes from the meeting of November 13, 2012 were not available at this meeting but will be available at the next meeting for any changes.

Ms. Ames welcomed our guests: Althea James (mother of Ariyan Hudson), Dr. Yvonne Parchment, and Tanya Thomas (mother of Melvalisha Braynen).

Ms. Goins discussed the upcoming computer-based testing that will be held (Fall Interim Assessments). Teachers are using the strategies set forth in the School Improvement Plan (SIP). The data is not showing overall growth. Individually, however, some students are showing growth. We want to expose our students to taking computer-based tests.

Dr. Parchment suggested offering our students an incentive to go online to practice computer-based testing.

As stated in the SIP, small group data-driven instruction has been implemented. She also commented our challenge is for students to take ownership of their own learning.

We have an EESAC budget this year of $682.00 and recommendations for what to spend it on were requested.

Ms. Ames suggested some of the funds be spent on mints and snacks for the students during assessment periods. EESAC funds will be finalized at the January 2013 meeting.

Ms. Ames informed us of the Weekly Briefing #13061 on the School Recognition Program whereby “A” or significantly improved schools could receive bonuses. The EESAC determines how the bonuses will be used. The bonuses usually consist of $100 per fulltime student. This is a non-recurring bonus for the faculty and staff.

Ms. Ames distributed a draft of the January activities calendar.

Mrs. Grice encouraged parents to have students attend EESAC meetings. Parents and students can recommend change to the school time. She also informed attendees that daughters of parents who attend the EESAC meetings will get points for use in the Stork’s Nest. This will increase parent/student involvement. Several students, especially our seniors, have asked about the possibility of changing the school’s reporting time. This discussion begins with our school’s EESAC.

Ms. Ames explained what the Stork’s Nest does for those who may not be familiar with its purpose. She also explained Bonding Time – one week of perfect attendance equals 15 minutes, four weeks equals one hour of time students can spend with their babies in the nursery.

The next EESAC meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2013.

The EESAC meeting was adjourned at 8:59 a.m.
