Verified EESAC Meeting Minutes

Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:31 a.m. The minutes from February 13, 2013, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers gave the SIP review. He informed about the SIP Review and Development Staff and EESAC Verification Form. This form identifies who will attend the 2013-2014 SIP Technical Assistance meeting in May. The midyear review was submitted to the district and the state. The Office of School Improvement’s EESAC Compliance Report (03-15-13) states “Your EESAC is in compliance. No action is required at this time.”

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny reviewed upcoming events. Today is the lucky Tuesday fundraiser sponsored by PTSA. On March 20 at 7 p.m., the music department will present the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”; much preparation has gone into this presentation. It will include a New York deli at 6 p.m. Also March 20, the Healthy Schools Initiative will meet: Dr. Garcia is finishing painting of lines and posting of exercise signs on the course. March 21 is Kick-It-Up for seventh-graders organized by Mr. Sands. Seventh grade students will be able to have lunch outdoors and enjoy our new sound system, which was purchased by funds provided by a parent donation. March 22 is a teacher planning day, and spring break is March 25-29. April 1 is the German International Parent Association meeting on college preparedness. AP practice exams for all languages are April 3. Mateo Chance will represent Carver at the state Geography Bee on April 4 in Jacksonville. Mr. Sands is organizing FCAT pep rallies for all three grades, April 8-10 during homeroom. French Drama will have a performance on April 9. The IE random selection meeting for incoming parents is April 10, along with the Principal’s Honor Roll luncheon. April 11 at 9-10:30 a.m. is the Endangered Authors competition for grade 7; we are bringing in four young adult authors. Funds from the parent donation (mentioned above) also were used to purchase books for the competition and four portable microphones. Friends of Carver is on April 12 at the Coral Gables Museum. Student Council will take a fieldtrip to Coral Gables High school on April 13. FCAT testing is April 15-26. Mr. Cardenas asked how many students take the testing in each lab and was told that it is 22 to 25 at a time. The reading test takes two days for each student, and Mrs. Stroleny complimented Ms. Castillo for her work in planning the testing. The FIPA Gala is April 20. The music program will present “Let’s Go to the Movies” on April 26. EOC testing begins on April 29. Carver will be recognized as a Magnet School of Distinction by the Magnet Schools of America on May 5-8 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. May 7 is the Spanish AP exam and the seventh-grade fieldtrip. The literacy team meets on May 13. The French AP exam is on May 14. The PTSA general meeting and the German AP exam are on May 15. On May 16 and 17, seventh-graders will take a fieldtrip to the Lowe Art Museum through language arts classes; there will be no cost to students and busses will be provided. May 20 is the Civics EOC pilot test; our students took a civics exam last Thursday and 35 percent scored proficient. May 21 is the NJHS induction and the next EESAC meeting.
IPrep construction starts after FCAT. We are setting up another computer lab in Ms. Senior’s room, giving us four computer labs.

Official Business: At its Feb. 20 meeting, the faculty voted and approved that there be no changes to the existing contract waiver, as well as no alternative supplement model waiver. The EESAC Composition Waiver is to be completed if the EESAC requests to change the composition of the EESAC; EESAC voted to keep the composition as is. EESAC By-laws were reviewed; EESAC requested that they remain as they are. The EESAC Roster was reviewed; the roster is current. EESAC minutes are archived, with one set of minutes (02-13-13) pending. According to the Department of School Improvement, “one set of minutes should always be pending.”
