Topics Covered

The meeting was called to order at 8:09 a.m. by Sandra Ames in the Media Center of Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center.

Mrs. Ames, EESAC Chair, welcomed the teachers, and EESAC members.

The minutes from the April 9, 2013 EESAC meeting were reviewed. After review, it was moved and seconded for approval as read.

Old Business:

Mrs. Grice discussed the process used to develop the 2013-2014 School Improvement Plan (SIP) which is a work in progress. Mrs. Grice went over the strategies and anticipated barriers that are currently being revised in the Reading School Improvement Plan End-of-Year Review 2012-2013. These strategies and barriers consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
• Resources needed for success
• The need for student accountability talks
• The use and ownership of data
• The proper use of common planning to improve teaching and learning
• IPEG evaluations linked to activities

Mrs. Grice reiterated that everything done within the school must revolve around student achievement.

Mrs. Goins discussed the School Improvement Plan End-of-Year Review 2012-2013 for Math, and Science. Modifications include changing the current use of FCAT Explorer to move from a student centered activity to a teacher centered activity. Math teachers will use FCAT Explorer for Bell Ringers, and/or Assessments. Math and Science will increase the participation in district competitions and create some in-house competitions.

Next, Mrs. Goins discussed the School Improvement Plan End-of-Year Review 2012-2013 for Career/Technology which has encountered a major barrier that has interfered with students’ ability to compete in competitions.

Mrs. Goins also discussed the School Improvement Plan End-of-Year Review 2012-2013 for Student Services. The Student Services department has had an increase in Parent Involvement and Attendance during this school year as per the goals addressed in the SIP.

However, in order to have a more profound impact on parent involvement, suspensions, drop-out rate, etc., the strategies will continue to be reviewed and modified.

New Business:

Mrs. Grice discussed an “Attendance Plan” that will be created and implemented for the upcoming school year (2013-2014). This plan will include the use of Title 1 resources, ConnectEd, the use of data from Attendance Bulletins and Teacher Contact Logs, and Programs and Resources that the district has taken from us.

Mrs. Grice explained Common Core to the EESAC members, and also reviewed the process of enrolling students into Reading classes (Intensive and Enrichment).

Dr. Parchment explained how reading is a problem even in the Universities.

The staff, teachers, and EESAC members will continue to look at modifications, changes, and improvements to the SIP.

The SIP will be reviewed with parents during the Tots’ graduation.

Dr. Parchment presented EESAC with a donation towards the student awards ceremony.

The EESAC committee welcomed Mrs. Valenzano to her first official EESAC meeting.

All EESAC members were asked to review the SIP and send any recommendations so that the SIP can be modified as needed.

Announcements:

Mrs. Ames explained Tots’ graduation for some of the members; she also invited the EESAC members to attend Tots’ graduation on May 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.

The next EESAC meeting will be held on June 4, 2013.

The EESAC meeting was adjourned at 8:54 a.m.
