EESAC Meeting Minutes
Call or order
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Ms. Amparo Quintero, EESAC Chairperson, opened the meeting by telling us about some of the handouts that are available to peruse during the meeting: prior EESAC meeting minutes.
Review/Approve Prior Meeting Minutes
EESAC reviewed and approved prior meeting minutes unanimously.
School Improvement Plan (SIP)
The Instructional Review (IR) directly relates to the SIP. They reviewed the action plan. For the most part, there is evidence of the Gradual Release Model (GRM) and Common Planning. Their suggestion is to continue to emphasize the new Florida Standards assessments. Focus on students’ ability (You Do). Continue to conduct common planning in order to understand goals and new assessments. DI: Team observed DI in the upper grades. DI has been added to the action plan.
RtI/Leadership Team Reviews/Updates
As stated in the grade level chairperson meetings, fifty-six (56) students have been identified. However, we need to submit packets to start process with each student. Team meets monthly to review student profiles. We meet to ‘triage” referred cases. There are worries/concerns about students who come from other schools because we have no data or record of interventions.
Open Forum/Discussions
School Operations
PTA is currently seeking new parents to serve in EESAC. Roster is now unlocked.
Question (Rosario): Will this be for this school year or the next one?
Answer (Riaz): This year. If current PTA chooses to serve, they may join EESAC.
Budget
Dr. Riaz: We are in the process of hiring a second interventionist using ETO funds. The interventionist is slated to start working on Monday.
We purchased toner cartridges with EESAC monies and 2 iPods to match those donated by Mass Mutual for Accelerated Reader.
We purchased a pressure cleaner with school funds.
Question (Welch): Can we use EESAC funds to repair the laminating machine?
Answer (Riaz): Mr. Everett tried to fix it and it may be working.
[Ms. Farmer says it is not working.]
We are replacing printers in select classes, when old cartridge supply is depleted, we will upgrade the printers.
Title I
Ms. Patricia Paneque’s spouse is donating soil, etc. in order to beautify the school.
New Business: No new business items.
Comments/Concerns
Comment (Welch): As part of the committee for Early Childhood, I learned that there is not funding for Waterford. This is a software program for ELL. We are trying to get this software for Pre K and Kindergarten. We are asking that parents not wait until May to register for school. The committee wants seminars to assist parents and a more school friendly environment for parents.
Comment (Rosario): Many academies are opening locally. They get free VPK and pay a little extra to stay until 6:00 p.m. This is a trend in the neighborhood that I am noticing.
Comment (Welch): Flickers for Pre K: There is an issue with Pre K (not a reference to our school) not performing well. People are saying that the process being used to assess may be unfair to students.
Comment (Riaz): There will be a beautification project taking place at our school on Saturday, December 13, 2014 after 8:30 a.m. Home Depot and the PTA are providing funds.
Comment (Welch): I know a teacher who donates plants, I will contact her.
Comment (Moore): Walmart gives donations for education. Additionally, I attended the Miami Book Fair. I met an author who incorporates actors in costumes in her reading. She authored a bilingual book for primary age students and is interested in coming to Broadmoor. I also met someone from the Miami Marlins. They are also excited about visiting Broadmoor.
Comment (Rosario): We need plants and soil more than we need mulch.
Comment (Welch): Please do not discard or use soil found in classrooms. The garden will be making a comeback.
Comment (Riaz): Marlins event would be great prior to State Test as a pep rally. March 19th would be the preferred date. January or February would be a great time for the author to visit Broadmoor.
Comment (Welch); Yoga classes are offered at Gratigny or they can come to our school. This is part of CIGNA Health.
Comment (M. Rodriguez): Ms. Alexander and I are working on a “Be Fit and Fabulous” initiative after the holidays.
