Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:20 a.m. The minutes from May 13, 2015, were reviewed and approved.

 

Official Business: Mrs. Robledo was unanimously reelected as EESAC chairperson.

 

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers explained that the SIP is a living document. He discussed the PD Blueprint (Part 2 Needs Assessment) and the need to update the EESAC roster by Oct. 9. He also explained the Internal Review for Tier 1 schools and our current school status, which we are working on; Part 2 has been completed. He also gave testing data. Passing rates on the Advanced Placement exams were as follows: French, 98 percent; German, 95 percent; Italian, 100 percent; and Spanish, 96 percent. On End of Course Exams, passing rates were as follows: Algebra, 95.5 percent; Biology, 100 percent; and Geometry, 100 percent. On the FCAT Science exam, 89.4 percent of students passed. Our attendance last year was 97.5 percent.

 

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny welcomed back all members and said she hoped they had a good summer. She then gave information about upcoming events. Homeroom tutoring interventions begin on Sept. 9 and she discussed the rationale of the tutoring program. The PTSA Fall Fundraiser begins on Sept. 8; also, the vote for the teacher’s contract is taking place on Sept. 8. Baseline assessments in reading and mathematics for grades 6-8 using iReady run from Sept. 8 to Oct. 2. The PTSA Family Night fundraiser at Sports Grill in South Miami is on Sept. 9. The PTSA general meeting is on Sept. 10. Amy Kutell is the new PTSA president. Girls’ soccer season begins on Sept. 15. Open house is on Sept. 16. On Sept. 17, authors Lisa McCann and Kevin Sylvester will visit Carver to speak to classes during sixth period. Sept. 18 is the Club Fair and Techy Friday. On Sept. 19, there will be a retirement celebration for Mrs. Braithwaite. Mrs. Fernandez explained details about the Sunshine Club. On Sept. 20, SIPA will hold its family picnic at Dante Fascell Park. The Variety Show is at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 22. Sept. 23 is a teacher planning day. A Science Fair workshop for parents of eighth-graders is on Sept. 24. Progress reports go home on Sept. 24. Spike-It-Up for sixth-graders is on Sept. 25. The Scholastic Book Fair is Sept. 28-Oct. 2. The Fitnessgram Pretest for grades 6-8 is Oct. 1-29. The Hispanic Heritage Luncheon will be Oct. 2. The Literacy Team will meet at 8:10 a.m. on Oct. 5. The District ELA Writing Exam for grades 6-8 will be Oct. 5-30. The next EESAC meeting is at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 in Room 10. Mrs. Stroleny also discussed staff changes. Mrs. Braithwaite has retired and we are in the process of hiring additional hourly security and front desk personnel. Mrs. Tannen and Ms. Vo are new language arts teachers. Mr. Williams and Mr. Guitian have been hired as part-time custodians. Mrs. Stroleny thanked the PTSA and Mrs. Kutell for painting the wall by the main office, facilitating the landscaping and beautification on the campus, and for providing the opening of school lunch. Every teacher is part of one of eight Professional Learning Groups that are meeting this year for professional development.
