The meeting was called to order at 8:02 a.m. by Mrs. Alfreida Joseph-Goins in Room 39 of Dorothy M. Wallace COPE Center.
A presentation of the Parental Involvement goals for the 2015-2016 school year was given by Mrs. Grice.
Dr. Gayden, chairperson of the Mathematics/Science Department, presented on the subject of STEM. She also spoke of the grant she received from Fairchild Gardens to share with her science students. She will be holding a Math FUNdamentals Night, to increase student engagement and parental involvement, again this school year.
Ms. Revere, chairperson of the CTE Department, presented information that her department will be supporting the Language Arts Department through reading.
Mrs. Goins told those present that the faculty will be promoting students to read to their children as vocabulary acquisition is critical early on. This will be done through “Mommy and Me” interactions, in-house competitions, having the senior class enter essay contests, promoting school-wide literacy and encouraging students to obtain industry certifications.
A discussion was held on the School Improvement Plan goals for 2015-2016.
It was moved and seconded to accept the School Improvement Plan goals for 2015-2016. All present voted “Aye”. There were no “Nay” votes.
The minutes for the May 2015 meeting will be read for approval at the next EESAC meeting.
Mrs. Goins requested input on the meeting time, as to whether there was a preference for morning or afternoon meetings. There were no objections to the meeting time of 8:00 a.m. She then gave a tentative schedule for the upcoming meetings for the rest of the school year: (1) Beginning of December (2) February (3) March and (4) May.
Ms. Gilbert and Shakiria Clay (SGA President) thanked Mr. Joey McCall of Farrell & Patel for their donation of “The Voice” newsletter to our students.
The UTD Representative – Ms. Centeno – told those present the union is planning a “March for Education” in Tallahassee in January 2016.
