Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. The minutes from February 2, 2016, were reviewed and approved.

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mr. Rivers reported that on Feb. 24 the Carver staff voted on the 2016-2017 School Improvement Plan (SIP) Waivers [Labor Contract Waiver and Alternative Supplement Model Waiver]. The staff approved the waiver for block scheduling for the 2016-17 school year by a count of 45-8 (85 percent); no Alternative Supplement Model Waiver was requested. He also said the Attendance Boundary Committee presented its recommendations at its meeting on Feb. 4 but that it only affects two schools in the North Region and that Carver is not affected.

Official Business: The EESAC voted unanimously to approve the waiver for the block schedule for the 2016-17 school year.

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny explained that today’s meeting is necessary because there is no meeting in April. She publically acknowledged Mr. Scippio and his committee for the Black History Luncheon and Alumni Day. We had more than 300 participants at the luncheon and more than 100 students involved with the Alumni Day events. Our recent visit from the STEM designation team went very well and Dr. Garcia will give us more information later in the meeting. Mrs. Stroleny commented on immunizations for next year. Mrs. Stroleny then discussed upcoming events. The date of the fundraiser, Family Night at Sports Grill, was clarified with the help of Mrs. Kutell; it will be March 17 instead of March 1. The FSA Writing Assessment is taking place for all students today and yesterday. Sixth-graders will undergo scoliosis screening on March 4. Mrs. Moghani will conduct a German recognition ceremony on March 4. The tentative filming date for Mrs. Vazquez as Superhero Teacher is March 7. On March 8, we will hold a faculty meeting with MDCPS Police about safety and lockdowns. The NJHS Induction Ceremony is on March 9. On March 9-11, German students will take the DSD 1 7 IS German exam. The GIPA Black Tie event is on March 12. Musical theatre students will present the musical “Alice in Wonderland” on March 15. Mrs. Winston’s students will present a French play on March 16. On March 17, students may wear jeans and a green shirt; Mrs. Bodin and Mrs. Kutell will receive recognition for their volunteer work. March 17th is also Early Release, and students are leaving on Europe trips organized by Mrs. Robledo and Mrs. Moghani. Spring Recess is March 21-25. PTSA spring pictures are March 30 and 31. On April 1, students may wear jeans and a sports team shirt. That date is also the practice session for the Advanced Placement language exams. The Friends of Carver Gala is on April 2. FSA, FCAT and EOC assessments begin on April 11. The next EESAC meeting is on May 3.

Open Forum: Dr. Garcia gave an update on the STEM designation. He said we had a successful visit from STEM designation team; its purpose was not to evaluate our program but to give suggestions. The team noted our lack of CTE classes; we will examine that suggestion. We will continue with monthly STEM lesson plans by grade level and department and upload showcase lesson plans. Dr. Garcia said the STEM designation team is confident that Carver will achieve STEM designation, which will be announced at the 2017 STEM Expo. Dr. Garcia answered questions from Mrs. Robledo and Mrs. Kutell about the significance of the STEM designation. Dr. Garcia also said 14 teams of students have uploaded presentations to eCybermission. Mrs. Toledo reported that a team of students has uploaded its presentation to the website for the Internet Science and Technology Fair for the University of Central Florida.
