II. Call to Order
a. Mr. Perez called the EESAC Committee meeting to order at 2:30pm on November 17, 2016 at International Studies Preparatory Academy at Gables (ISPA).
III. Roll Call
IV. Approval of Minutes from September 22, 2016
a. Mr. Spiga made a motion to approve the minutes, and Ms. Bez seconded the motion.
b. Minutes from September 22, 2016 were approved unanimously.
V. School Improvement Plan 2016-2017
a. Mr. Perez shared that the previously discussed SIP has been uploaded and shared with both region and district.
VI. Recruitment Update
a. There has been extensive recruitment done by staff traveling to schools and Magnet fairs. Mr. Perez shared that he visited Shenandoah and Citrus Grove Middle Schools yesterday.
b. He also shared that there has been an increase in applications compared to this point last year, with a lot of international family applications
c. In addition, the IE Italian program has also shown an increase in popularity, though they hope to see more students qualify and apply for the IS program too.
VII. School Boundary Committee
a. Mr. Perez explained that as a magnet school the boundaries do not apply to ISPA, however the appropriate representatives will convene to sign necessary documents. Ms. Diaz will follow up with them.
VIII. PTSA Update
a. Upcoming Annual Parent Cocktail Event on February 10th
b. There will be great food and a silent auction.
c. It will be posted on social media; teachers will be receiving invitations.
IX. New Business
a. Ms. Martinez shared about the Financial Aid Workshop this Saturday. MDC will have representatives there to present.
b. Upcoming mock test will be in the spring for 10th and 11th graders.
c. A parent made an inquiry about sports team, where Mr. Perez was able to explain that it must be district approved. The smaller magnet schools like ISPA do not have sports, but the students can play for their home school. Many have taken advantage of this opportunity.
d. Matthew Roca announced that they are looking for more students to purchase their tickets for the upcoming Winter Formal. Ms. Rodriguez mentioned that she realized many freshmen are unaware of the guest procedure. Matthew will make a morning announcement to ensure to remedy the information gap.
e. Mr. Perez announced that the Europe trip in April has 15 students signed up, but there is still room in the New Orleans trip.
f. Testing on Saturday
i. The first round of 91 8th graders will be assessed this coming Saturday.
g. This Saturday the Young Artists will be hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser this Saturday from 8:00-11:00am. All are welcome.
X. Adjournment
a. Ms. Alamo moved to adjourn the meeting and Ms. Bez seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 3:10pm.
