Approval of minutes: Mrs. Robledo called the meeting to order at 8:25 a.m. The minutes from November 1, 2016, were reviewed and approved.

 

SIP Review: The EESAC is the sole body responsible for the approval and implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Mrs. Stoleny read Mr. Rivers’ notes: The administrative team is very pleased with gradual release in the classrooms, as teachers are using different models to implement this goal. Currently, Math and Language Arts classes are currently administering the i-Ready Diagnostic Test (AP2) to their students as a means to evaluate student progress.

 

Principal’s Message: Mrs. Stroleny reported that Mr. Rivers is attending CATT III (Certified Assessor Training Tool) training for administrators to ensure that observations are conducted in a standard manner across the district. Mrs. Stroleny said this is a quality training experience. Mrs. Robledo asked whether there will be changes to the observation procedures, and Mrs. Stroleny responded that nothing has changed. Mrs. Maria Malagon retired as registrar on Dec. 2. Her accuracy with records was second to none. She has been replaced by Mrs. Nilia Pinoc, who comes highly recommended.
On Nov. 2, Mrs. Winston's students visited a French naval ship. Mock elections took place on Nov. 3 and 4. On Nov. 4, Mrs. DiPietro’s Italian students presented an outstanding performance. Cyber-safety workshops for students took place on Nov. 7. On Nov. 9, parents attended a Language Arts workshop. Sixth-graders participated in Spike-It-Up on Nov. 10. The Science Fair on Nov. 14 was a big success. On Nov. 17, parents attended a FCAT Science workshop. Eighth-graders visited Coral Gables Senior High on Nov. 22. On Dec. 1, Richard Kern presented a high quality nature program to all grade levels. Students saw the importance of taking care of the environment. The seventh-grade field trip was Dec. 2. On Dec. 5, the Literacy Team met to share best practices and review current data. Mrs. Coto-Gonzalez has been named Assistant Principal of the Year for the Coral Gables Feeder Pattern. She is very deserving of this honor. A Math workshop for parents will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 and will be followed by the PTSA meeting. The workshop will be divided by grade level and course. On Dec. 8, our Principal Today will be Mr. Mark Trowbridge, CEO and President of Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. The sixth-grade field trip is on Dec. 9. The Principals Honor Roll field trip is on Dec. 13. On Dec. 14, Mrs. Harmon’s students will present a Holiday Concert. On Dec. 14, Carver is being recognized by the School Board for French Label designation, STEM Silver Designation, and the 5 Star honor for community participation and engagement. Winterfest for German students takes place on Dec. 16. The PTSA Holiday Luncheon is on Dec. 20. A Shakespeare Showcase will be presented at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 21. On Dec. 23, seventh-graders will participate in Kick-It Up. The next EESAC meeting is on Jan. 10. Mrs. Stroleny concluded by saying that she hopes all get to spend quality time with family and loved ones over the winter recess.

 

Open Forum: Mrs. Daniels reported on athletics. The girls’ soccer team won the district and county championships. Both girls’ and boys’ volleyball teams are in playoffs. Track season starts in January, with tryouts currently underway.
